Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Scanner not recognized

My C6180 has worked flawlessly until this week. I am able to print from my computer. When I try to scan from my computer, which I could do without difficulty until this week I cannot find the scanner. HP solution center software now reports "no HP device detected". I have tried to update the software and I get a message that update has failed. Need some help here as everything is working except the scanning software.

Check to make sure you have the most recent software for your printer. Go to Canon's support website to check for the latest software: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx300#DriversAndSoftware

If that doesn't work, I've sometimes have had to uninstall a printer and it's software, and then completely reinstall it again for it to work. Hope this helps.

2 ways to scan from HP printers

First* try from "my computer" ... near the bottom of the page you should see "scanners" in there, try clicking that and follow prompts

Second* go to start/ programs/ HP/ HP Solution Center
all scanning choices should be on the left

Hp photosmart c6180 all in one printer will not scan or copy


The scanner bulbs ahve gone bad.U need to get it them replaced.Before that try resetting the printer using the # and the number 6 buttons,holding them down and then inserting the power cord at the back of the printer.
see if it works.

Printer will only print, not copy fax or scan


Hi,
It is possiblethat the all in one solution software you used in XP doesn't work with Vista, after some update or other. You did the right thing by uninstalling and reinstalling. Make sure you have the correct driver from the HP site..

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP C6180) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.

The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

The next document is a set of diagnostic steps to address errors trying to scan to a PDF:

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:

I had this before from a similar HP all in one. I discovered if the scan data was bigger than the PC physical free memory then this error would occur. It required a PC restart to get it going again. Try reducing the scan DPI and/or reduce the area scanned with the preview bounding box.
