I have a lexmark 8300 all in one printer, i have attempted o install it using the software disk provided, that was unsuccessful, i then downloaded the drivers for vista, when i tried to install the new drivers, i was advised to unstall the previous drivers before i culd install the new one, problem!!, will not allow me to unstall, states that unstall is not reponding, i have swithc off my firewall, nil happened, please, please how do i get this to install, heeelp.
Lexmark has drivers for Vista for most their printers now on their website. But they have not offered the software to run the all in one productivity suite which includes scanning, faxing etc., only printing is available as of now. Isnt that why we bought the "all in one printer" in the first place? LOL

Re: lexmark 8300 series printer
Vista is not friendly with printers at this point. Best bet is to get a printer that specifies Vista compatible. Or do what I did and created a dual boot with XP and install printer there. Let me know what you decide.

Access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.lexmark.com
and enter the model-number (8300) of your printer, and do the search.
Select your Operating System (Vista).
Download the device-driver.
Lexmark have not yet released a driver for Vista and there does not appeasr to be any intention to do so from what i have read on their bulletins. Dopn;t wait sell it on ebay to an xp user and get a better supported printer
Before installing the new driver you have to uninstall the old one.
If the system is not permitting to uninstall the driver, then try installing the new driver by the following steps:
ensure your printer is connected to your computer and the power is on 1.) click start / right click computer and select properties 2.) click device manager 3.) Click View then show hidden devices
4.) right click on the printer and click uninstall
5.) Unplug your printer usb from your computer
7.) INSTALL THE PRINTER WITH THE VISTA DRIVERS YOU DOWNLOADED..
REMEMBER NOT TO PLUG IN YOUR PRINTER UNTIL THE SETUP SOFTWARE TELLS YOU TO DO SO.
Hope my info will solve your problem,
Thanx for using fixya,
I dont know the exact tip for this one. but you can try the following steps to solve this problem.
Download the Windows Vista printer driver for the SCX-4216F multifunction printer from www.samsung.com.
Install the driver on your Windows Vista computer. During
installation, you’ll be prompted to connect the printer to your
computer. Choose the option to proceed with installation without
connecting the printer.
After installation completes, open the Printers applet from the Windows Vista Control Panel.
Right-click on the new Samsung SCX-4100 Series printer and choose Properties.
Go to the Ports tab.
Click Add Port…, select Local Port, then click New Port…
For the port name, enter exactly the network path and share name of your printer (e.g. \\RECEPTION\Samsung SCX-4×16 Series).
Click OK, and double-check that this new port is selected with the checkbox next to it.
