Question about Nortel Norstar M7310 Display Phone

How to Change COS (Class of Service) Password

We need to make some changes. Most importantly, we need to remove the restrictions on placing outgoing long-distance calls. Currently, to dial locally, we press "9 + phone number" To dial long-distance, we press "8 + 1 + area code + phone number" then wait for the 3 beeps and enter a 4-digit code. Our long distance is free through our phone service provider, so this is unnecessary and cumbersome. The only person in our entire company that ever used their COS password is no longer with us. I've spent over an hour searching the internet and manuals trying to figure out how to change a COS password... re-install... anything so we can access these changes. I have reset the System Admin password, checked Line and Set restrictions separately (all to "no restrictions"), and can't seem to make a difference. Can anyone help to reset a COS (Class of Service) Password on a Nortel Norstar M7310 ? Thank you!

OR if this problem sounds familiar, is there any way to change the code-option on an outgoing long-distance call?

If you set the all line and set restrictions to no restrictions, you are not restricted from making any calls. I don't think it's the phone system requiring this 4 digit code. Are you sure all your lines are set with the same long distance provider. Did the lines in the dial 8 group require a code. (ie some users had the long distance provider set up their lines to need a code entered to charge calls off to different job codes, so they can distribute the charges correctly).
You should now be able to call 9+1+area code+number, with no restrictions.

I cannot restrict call please help me?

Your question is a bit thin, so here's the thin answer. RTFM. Panasonic systems use COS (Class of Service) and TRS (Toll Restriction) to control calling. In sections 301-305 and 306-310, you build a set of rules, change the station COS, and it should work. The Features Manual has a fairly complete description and examples of TRS use.

Hi, Can you help me my problem. I Need programming manual for KX-ta308. Specially for the restriction of outgoing calls on local extensions. Already downloaded a manual but cannot find outgoing...

Under alphabetic FEATURES, look at TRS (Toll Restriction) and COS (Class Of Service). It explains the concept of call restriction and how to program it.

We have a different 308 in the US, one that was built on a 624 platform, so a 624 features set will work, it just has a smaller number of lines :-)

How do I block selected numbers/

Which directrion, outward or incoming?

Outbound restriction is a function of COS and TRS. You build the tables, and change the Class of Service for the particular extensions.

Inward, you block calls the same way you would if you didn't have a Panasonic system phone.

We have a Panasonic KX-T7730 system. We need to block all outgoing chargeable calls (numbers starting with zero) on some of the phones (kept in the office reception for customers)

I think you're going to need a couple of things to do that. The model number of the system, and a complete set of manuals.
When you get the manuals, look up TRS. It involves setting restrictions and changing the Class of Service (COS) of the phones you want to restrict.

Toll restriction override by account code.

It's not thatt simple. Look at 1.3.90 in the OM. You need to set a password and an extension COS on a secure set. For example, if you have a spare extension like 114, reclass it to COS 1, give it a password, then you can dial 7*xxxx114# press any line and dial the world.

The SMDR of the Walking COS user will show where it was made from. Needless to say, if the code is compromised, you have no security and no toll restriction, so be prepared to change the extension security code often.

The other variation is that you just change the class of service on those users authorized to make 00 calls so they can do it from their phone and let them use walking COS on a restricted phone.

Blocking zero

Toll restrictions (TRS) comes from the phone SYSTEM, not the set, and it depends on what system you have. Your system should have more than one manual. In the FEATURES guide, it will tell you how to set up TRS and the programming manual will tell you how to do it.

Simply, a phone has a Class of Service COS and each COS had an ALLOW and DENY table. If you put "0" in the deny table for COS 2 and change the COS of an extension to 2, it will be restricted. I'm not sure you can restrict 0x and allow 0 as the screening will stop after the first digit passes. Here in the U.S., we restrict 0 and forget about it as the operators can be talked into placing the call as operator assist.

If you need specific help, please post the model of your system and I might be able to give you better information. I have a link to another site if your model is TA-824, but you should be able to work out the programming with the right manuals.

Locking overseas call...

The 7730 doesn't do anything. The cabinet the phone is plugged into does. It can be one of about 18 models that Panasonic makes and it has programming rules under TRS (toll restriction). For example, in some models, if you change your extension COS (Class of Service) to 7, it can't dial long distance. In others, you have only 5 COS and you have to build all tables..

In the simplest case, you need to find a programming manual for the particular system and review the section on TRS. In that, you will start by putting 00 in a class from 2-5 and then change the COS of the extension to match. There are other rules like Allow in COS 2 will allow all Allow codes entered in TRS 2-5, but that's for another day.

If you find a model of the cabinet, I can get you pointed in the right direction. I will not build your tables :-)
