I just bought a tascam dm 3200 i plug my mic in xlr inputs but cant receive any signal, the manual doesnt tell me how to set up mic for each channel and not sure how to connect to active speakers

This is a very powerful mixer, what do you plan to do with it? Did you receive manual with unit? the manual may take several readings as thus may require steps in a certain order.
XLR is a type of input connector. A microphone is not a microphone. Is your mic a dynamic or condenser mike? The condenser mic requires phantom power is it on? Are you using quality cables or inexpensive cables Does make a difference. The unit has outputs.. Let me know what help you need. Also the best solution would be to call Tascam they will help you.

My daughter tells me my voice wavers when I FaceTime her.

There could be quite a few resons, so please check the following list. Not all of them might apply to your situation, but the all could cause sluggishness in your video conversation.

1. Make sure you are not obstructing the microphone with anything, including your hand. Usually the microphone is on the back side near the back side camera, and on the side near the volume buttons. You can check it's exact location by finding a tiny whole on the ipad body in these locations.

2. Check the wifi signal strength on the status bar. Having less than 3 bars means poor signal. That can really ruin call quality.

3. Try to make a voice only call on facetime. Video needs big data flow rates. If voice calling is good, but video call is bad, you or your talking partner may have a slugish internet connection.

4. If you are using mobile network for your internet/data connection it may become slugish from time to time. Mobile networks always prioritize phone calls over internet/data connection. So if lots of people are making phone calls on your area, yor data connection quality will drop, thus the facetime call using data connection will suffer the consequences by loosing quality.

5.Talking on facetime, or skype using video call is like streaming a video in realtime over internet, and it needs speedy and stable connection. If connection is bad, yor call may become sluggish.

6. Feedback prevention. Try to prevent the sound from your talking partner to get back to the microphone. Try wearing headphones.. Sometimes the sound is turned up so much that it gets back to the microphones, and in order to prevent causing a sound loop (the high piched sound you might heard eventually when people are using microphones on events) your ipad turns down your microphone for a short time trying to protect your ears :)

7. Try not to talk at the same time with your partner. When your partner is talking your microphone might be silenced. Because of what i described at point 6. Wait for your partners to finish their sentence and talk only after that.

On the microphone setup page, it keeps on asking me to say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and I made sure my audio settings were correct in my control panel. i don't know why it's not working!

Check to make sure that you have connected the microphone to a microphone port. Headphone ports are identical to microphone ports physically, however they will not accept audio input. If you have verified that the microphone is connected to a microphone jack and the device still does not work, you may be using an old or low quality microphone which is not good enough to detect your voice. You might need to buy a higher quality microphone. If this is not the case, your microphone may be broken. You can check this by using a recording program like audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/) to do a test recording and make sure that the microphone is actually recording. If none of the above seem to be the issue, then make sure you are speaking loudly and clearly. Voice recognition software is not always good at picking up your voice and you may need to enunciate your speech more, especially if English is not your first language or you have an accent. Good luck!

There is a major crackling sound when you play back anything that is recorded through the laptop microphone. Even if you record silence it still comes through with the carckling sound

The problem may be due the to the inbuilt microphone being a low quality item or may have a faulty cable that was pinched when the unit was assembled.

The laptop should have a jack to connect an external microphone, give this a try and see if you get better results.

Volume very low!

Most web camera models do not have microphones built in. When they do, they are far from the person speaking, if mounted near the monitor. If there actually is built in microphone, I suggest going to the "mixer functions" and selecting the box under microphone that says 10X boost (gain) and checking that, then readjusting the level on the mixer as this will boost microphone gain quite a bit.
Finally, for any real quality, I highly encourage the use of a commercial quality lapel or lavalier style microphone or even a nice Shure Dynamic mic with a deskstand, aimed reasonably close to your general head or chin direction. Radio Shack (!) also actually sells a flat conference type condensor microphone that is good if placed on a table or flat surface if you wish to pick up comments from multiple people with reasonable quality.
Good Luck!

Hi, I have just bought a R-H300 tape deck connected to a CR H250 amp. The play quality is good however I have connected a new mic through the Aux phono ports using a jack/phono converter and the record...

If your mic isn't made for connection to an AUX or Line Level input you won't get its specified performance.

Perhaps if you defined the mic and looked up a user's guide somewhere (retrevo.com comes to mind) you might find what you need to use it. Mic's usually require microphone preamplifiers.
