Question about Yamaha HTR-5063 Receiver
Can I pass through video from my laptop (HDMI) to my receiver (Yamaha HTR-5063) through RCA video (from "monitor out") to a projector (only has RCA input)? I assume the answer is either: A) buy a HDMI to 3-RCA cable or more likely B) buy an HDMI to RCA mini converter box.
The cable hdmi to rca does not work it is a scam. b option will work but cost a lot of money. if your receiver has an rca out that should work to your projector not sure about the in and output mode to do that from your receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

Connect your S-video output from the computer to an empty S-video input on the receiver. Connect your speaker output from computer to analog audio input on the receiver using a 1/8" stereo connector to RCA patch cable. You may have to set your computer to output video to the S-video jack, consult your HP documentation for instructions.

i know this sounds stupid, but have you "toggled" or "played" with the HDMI cables? are they the same manufacturer? HDMI channel connections are very fickle. If just one connection is not exactly correct, they go to a limp, no go status. Since they run at such a minimal voltage, i can't see them "blowing" the outputs on the devices.however....if your cable has a serial type output for video only, I would connect the hdmi convertor to it and see if it works.

I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't.
You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.
