I had a similar problem with my DVD player. Cleaning the laser eye helped fix my problem. You can clean it manually if you are not afraid to remove the cover of the unit or you can try a cleaning disc. The eye can collect dust and prevent it from reading the ID sector of the music CD.
Unless this is an expensive machine replace it. There will most definately be an internal problem. It will most likely cost you most just to have the machine taken apart and inspected then it would cost to replace. Sorry...
BeoSound 2000 - The CD won't even spin now. The cover closes, the Number 1 for the track appears in the display, then the cover immediately reopens showing what looks to be something like this [ ] in the display.
