Reading images off the camera

Hi there,

I connected up my camera to my pc (windows xp home ed) this morning and everything seemes to link up fine. I had to run a restart and after that, my camera just didn't want to connect to the pc properly. Initially it came up with the error "USB device not recognised" and since then it does one of two things -

either (when cord is plugged in and camera switched on) nothing happens on the pc and after a while the message "check connections" comes up on the camera display

or it'll show up in My Computer as a removable disk and open an explorer window but doesn't show any information. It show up the name of the device and everything and I can access the driver details which says that there's no problems. But obviously there is.

The memory disk is nearly full and I can browse the pics on the camera, so there is definately data there.

I'm hoping this is an issue with the cable - any other ideas? Is there a place I can download a new USB driver? Haven't been able to track anything down through google yet.

hi there,

got a different problem now - camera is recognised and I can access it through My Computer, I can even see the pictures in thumbnail view, but when I try to copy them out (onto my desktop or anywhere) they copy across as 0kb and won't open up.

any ideas?

Call our tech support number for cameras and we can go through a few things with you. Doesn't sound to hard to figure out, just would be easier over the phone.

Win XP Home will not recognize my Canon A1100 is when it is connected via USB. Camera on or off when connecting makes no difference. If a still image is selected for preview & connecting via USB, no...

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Windows XP wont dowload ALL images from my Canon EOS 400D

Your canon must be making multiple folders on the card and the computer is only reading the first one. Use a card reader to download your pictures.

I can't save images from my Fuji S5700 to my

Try removing the memory card and reading it through a card reader inserted into a USB port. Have you installed the program that came with the camera? I never used mine because I have other high end graphics programs and I always use a card reader instead of the cable. You WILL need the program if you want to do a firmware/BIOS update in the S700, and also the cable. The S700/5700 will only accept up to a 2gig memory card. If you want to use a 4 gig card, the camera (and also your computer) won't recognize the card until you do the update to the firmware. Available with instructions from FujifilmUSA website.

Sd600 digital camera trouble downloading pics to computer

Hmmm... Yea sometimes the pc doesn't see the added gizmo your camera. In which case, I suggest when you connect camera to computer click on "my computer" and you should see your device listed there along with your C drive & so on. Click on the camera icon & viola, you can copy the images from there to your computer. Yea I had the same experience with PS too, well Elements in particular. And there is a setting (somewhere in Elements Browser window) to turn it off. Yea to simply download images - it doesn't require any software at all with XP. I use a card reader & rarely deal with using the camera cable to computer hook up. To use that device you'll remove the card from the camera & stick in the reader & its ALWAYS worked for me. Again you'll have to click on "my computer" to find the images there. Otherwise --- next step would be to try another usb cable.

The popup would be the windows wizard wanting to assist with downloading image files. There's 2 popups one is the wizard and you'll click on transfer images & it walks you step by step to download the images. The other one is just a one click option & you can copy the images files to your computer. But since those options don't seem to work for you - one solution would be to click on "my computer" and you'll either find your camera or memory card listed along side your computers C drive. If you're downloading images from the camera - it needs to be hooked up via the cable + the camera probably needs to be turned on. Some cameras also have a setting or button to turn in order to download the images.
