Put a fully charged battery in, and try it.
If the battery is low, put the battery in first, then connect the AC adapter, let it charge for 24 hours.

How to Disassemble an HP Pavilion DV6000

The HP Pavilion DV6000 is one in a popular line of consumer-oriented laptops produced by HP. Relatively inexpensive, the Pavilion DV6000 is a good all-around value for most users. Taking apart an HP Pavilion DV6000 is not an easy chore and if you plan to use the laptop again, it is important you know what you are doing or you have a large appetite for risk. If the above doesn’t describe you, consider taking the HP in for professional repair or upgrade. Otherwise, follow the steps below to disassemble the HP Pavilion DV6000.
18385245_1.jpg?w=200 1、Prepare a clear workstation. Turn off the laptop and remove all power components including the cord and the battery. (Turn the laptop over and you will find the tab to push and pop out the dv6000 battery.) Also remove any peripheral attachments like card readers and USB devices.
90-04208-003_original-hp-pavilion-dv8000z.jpg?w=250 2、Turn the HP Pavilion dv6000 upside down and unscrew all the screws you find. Try to keep them separate by size so you can put them back in the same spot when and if you decide to reassemble the laptop.
3、Remove the hard drive and memory modules by pulling up on the rectangular compartments. The memory is located in the central compartment (remove by spreading latches and pulling up), and in most HP models the hard drive is located to one side.
4、Remove the optical CD/DVD drive by pulling on the drive face to the left and out of the laptop. Remove the WiFi card by disconnecting the gold connectors on the antenna and pulling the card from its slot.
5、Turn the hp dv6000 back over and remove the keyboard and power panel/media touch pad. Carefully pry the power panel up with a piece of hard plastic near the power button on the left side. Be careful when pulling not to yank the power connection as you might accidentally rip out a wire. Pull back the keyboard to reveal the connections. Disconnect the connections by carefully pulling on the tabs with your thumb and forefinger. If they are tight, wiggle them back and forth while pulling on them to loosen them.
6、Remove the screws that were underneath the power pack/media touch pad. Carefully pry up the top casing and set it aside.
7、Detach all visible connections to the motherboard by pulling gently on them, wiggling them if they are stuck. Gently pull up from the right side of the motherboard and remove. The HP laptop is now fully disassembled.

Hp pavilion dv6000 turns onn and off

I had a similar problem with my pavilion. They have a cooling fan design that allows for lint buildup and subsequent overheating. You could try using a compressed air and blowing out the exhaust vent area for the fans.

Hp pavillion dv6000 push the start button, lights come on for ''split second'', and nothing. lights go off, no motor, no nothing. happens when plugged in or not

You have suffered a motherboard failure, just to be sure you need to check the voltage at the tip of your AC adapter and leave the system battery out of it, Just try to power it on with the adapter. If the same event happens, you will need to either service the motherboard or replace it. Ebay has several MOBO repair services for the HP products, specifically the DV6000 and the DV9000. These have been HP's problem child for a few years.

My battery is at 0% and does not charge and whenever i take out the power chord my computer automatically turns off. Any help

here is a good resource I found:

Solution for HP Pavilion DV6000 Battery Not Charge
  • Reinstalling the power management software has just fixed it for me. Go to device manager and under batteries, unistall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery. Go to Actions on the menu bar and select ’scan for hardware changes’. It will reinstall it and hopefully start charging immediately (mine did anyway).
  • If your HP Pavillion dv6000 has a battery that won’t charge yet still turns on when plugged in, turn off the laptop and remove the battery then wait for around 30 seconds, re-insert it and turn it back on, the charging update should say, plugged in, charging.
  • I made the bios update, and works for me. My Dv6000 battery problems were fixed. The battery led always blinking every time and the battery didn’t charge. Now it’s ok !
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=3245619
  • If it is still under warranty you can chat with an online hp tech who will check it out over the internet and send you a replacement for free. the dv 6000 laptops have a recall on a few problems and there is a bios update to fix it before it happens but will not correct it after the fact the recall on specific problems extends the warranty to 24 months http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=3245619 should get you to the warranty page.
  • Just got it to charge again. While the laptop is powered and in Windows XP, press and hold the POWER button until it dies. Then, remove the dv6000 laptop battery. Power it back up and enter Windows. Then, re-insert the battery.
  • So I always remove the Hp dv6000 battery after I have powered down the laptop, and I have not had any battery problems since then!
  • I had the same issue my fix was a new cmos battery that was only $10.00 and install updated bios software from HP
  • I had the dv6000 battery problem where it showed my battery NOT CHARGING. I took it apart because my QUICKPLAY would not work either and the QUICKPLAY lights stayed on even after I shut down the laptop. I found that the black ribbon cable on the right (the other looks the same but you can see it is for the power button) was slightly kiltered in the flat socket it goes to underneath the area where the quickplay button is. I straightened it out and made sure it was pushed all the way in and locked and put it all back together and everything worked perfectly after that. About a month before that my POWER and SOUND didn`t work. I did the same thing to fix those problems. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THOSE CABLES EXACTLY RIGHT in there, IT MAY JUST BE YOUR PROBLEM TOO.
  • Some people dont realise that you should avoid short charges and discharges, if your batery does not go above 40% mabe its charge memory thinks its full. to fix this problem let the batery run fully down, then charge it all the way again. try it a few times if it doesnt work. and you have to go all the way, not let windows go into hibernation. to do that you need to get the batery low, then boot to some boot disk and let it sit till the batery dies.
  • HP has posted BIOS updates to address battery problems as well as the auto startup on some.If you will post the full model number, someone can help you find your driver/updates page.
Hope this helps, please rate! ^_^

Pavilion dv6000 when power button is pressed,

Have you tried to boot the laptop with the power cable connected? Is the charging indicator on when you connect it to the adapter? If the charging indicator does not light up, check if your adapter output and try booting it with the power cable connected.
