to be precise the heat goes off after 4 minutes and comes back on after 9 more, then repeats the cycle

It turned out to be an intermittently faulty fabric selector (high vs. low heat) switch. To restate the symptoms: Dryer runs but clothes don't dry; heat comes on for a bit then turns off and may (or may not) come back on after dryer cools down a lot. The thermostat near the blower controls electricdity to the element so that was our first suspect. The thermostat had connectivity when cold and no connectivity when very hot as expected. After the air began to cool, the thermostat should again allow current to run through it (connectivity). While we did have connectivity at this point (and thus a properly functioning thermostat) we did not have electricity through it. So we surmised that we must not have had electricity to it and looked further back toward the electrical source. At the fabric selector switch we found a blackened connector. When wiggled, the connection would become intermittent. So when cold the connection was good enough to allow electrictity through it, but when expanded by warmth (or being jiggled by the vibrations of the drum), the circuit was broken. Replacing the fabric selector switch has now solved the problem.

The duct may be clear but the exhaust on the back of the dryer may be blocked. You have to take the back off the dryer and check where the blower is. Good luck.

even with the duct removed the problem remains: the heat goes off after 4 minutes and comes back on after 9 more, then repeats the cycle. Now suspecting a faulty cyclic thermosat.

It could be a faulty overtemperature sensor or the channel on the back of the dryer where the blower is located. I have removed about $7.00 worth of change and a handful of lint from one dryer.

SOURCE: dryer will not heat up Does run

It's probably the thermostats that are normally attatched to the element or it could be the element itself. They are nprmally placed in the rear of the appliance.

The thermostats will only cost a few pounds.

SOURCE: dryer wont heat where is the fuse? speed queen

I do not believe it is a fuse, the dryer has a heater coil very much like a space heater contained in an air box inside of the dryer. If this heater coil breaks or burns into, then no heat. My 30 year old dryer has had two That I had to replace over the years. in order to get to this coil, youhave to take the back off.

Dryer heats up for a few minutes and then quits but dryer still runs

Hello

When the dryer heats for few minutes and then it won't work it means that the thermal fuse is bad and needs replacement. This part is located on the blower wheel housing inside the duct, you can also check this fuse for continuity before replacing. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Speed queen electric dryer shorted circuit bracker

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems to be the Thermal fuse that has gone bad. The thermal fuse is mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. When this fuse goes bad it should be replaced as it cannot be repaired. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

the herating element might be going bad. disconnect power, remove and inspect the heating element. look to see if its getting thin at any point. as it heats it could be seperatring and only give heat when it cools completely
