You cannot convert from amps to watts.
The Ampere is a unit of current intensity while the watt is a unit of power.
They can be related through the Joule effect law in a resistor
A resistor of resistance R that carries a current intensity I dissipates a power P=R*I^2=(R*I)*I=U*I where U is the potential difference across the resistor.
1 Watt = 1 Ohm *(1 A)^2
1 Watt = 1 Volt* 1 Ampere

It should tell you on the plate/sticker of the unit. If it only gives you voltage and amperage calculate it with this formula: Just substitute your values.

P (Watts) = A (current in amps) x V (voltage)
= 15 Amps x 120 Volts
= 1800 Watts

What size of inverter do I need?


The correct size of inverter is an easy calculation and important to ensure long life from the inverter and the life of the appliances getting there power from the inverter. To calculate you take the volts and multiply by the amps which equals the wattage. Every appliance has a tag which must state the volts and amps. Locate the tag to find the information. Here is an example.

Under Counter Refrigerator 1.3 amps (120 volts x 1.3 amps = 156 watts)
Microwave (120 volts x 10 amps = 1200 watts)
Alarm Clock Radio (120 volts x .03 amps = 3.6watts)
TV (120 volts x .6 amps = 72 watts)

You now add all the watts together, since the above list could likely be running at the same time. There is a combine wattage of 1431.6 watts. In this example you would need at least a 1500 watt inverter. However given some unknown variables personally I would get a 2500 watt inverter. Less stress on the inverter, will lengthen the life of the inverter. Had the total been 1,000 watts a 1,500 watt inverter would suffice.

You must also remember that your alternator on your vehicle must be able to keep up with the power demand of not only your vehicle needs but your inverter needs as well.

Normally, it's the amperage draw, that is of concern. It is normally printed on the manufacturers data sheet some where. Watts are typically the output from it, and can be found by multiplying the voltage, by the amps drawn. ie- 220v x 50amps =11,000 watts output. 110v x 15 amps = 1650 watts of power. There is a formula to then calculate the BTU's from the resulting answer. You can multiply the watts by 3.412, to get the BTU output.

Needs a fuse, what amp?


Consider the power consumption and Voltage of Air conditioner . Why you might ask because you can calculate likely current requirement. Power = Voltage x Current. So Current = Power / Voltage. Eg a 4800 Watt power on say a 240 Volt supply. Current calculation 4800/240 = 20 amps. As a rough guide what fuse rating is the fuse in the fuse box of the house for the AC power point. I would think 15 amp for lighting and between 20 Amp to 30 A for power.

How many 5 watt outside lights can you power with a 20 amp breaker?


Volts x amps= watts.
20 amp breaker x 125 volts = 2500 watts.
However, electrician use the 80% rule, so multiply 2500 x 80% = 2000 watts.
So if you have 20 amp breaker, and 12 gauge wire, and 20 amp switch, and distance is less than 150 feet, then watt load is 2000 watts or 400 5-watt bulbs.
Keep in mind that most switches are 15 amp, and not 20 amp.
Recalculate for 15 amp switch = 1875 watts x 80% = 1500 watts or 300 5-watt bulbs.

The microwave alone shouldn't cause a problem for the generator as even the most powerful models run about 1200 watts or about 10 amps. An air conditioner on the other hand, can draw considerably more power to run depending on BTU size; 15 amps and up is not uncommon (and even twice as much as that though only briefly when starting).

If these were the only things connected and on, the generator should be able to handle them - again depending on the BTU size of the AC unit. Generators state their capacity in Watts, but must of the devices we connect are in Amps. Calculating Watts in an AC circuit is complicated, but pretty close to the much easier Watts in a DC circuit for most residential settings. Here's how it's done:

Watts = volts x amps. Pretty simple stuff. Your generator is rated at 5500 watts. The microwave is say, 120 volts / 10 amps - which equals 1200 watts. The generator has 4300 capacity available now. Suppose your air conditioner is rated at 120 volts / 15 amps - which equals 1800 watts. 4300watts - 1800watts = 2400watts capacity is left. But, the starting current for the AC is as much as 25 amps for a few seconds (and once started drops back to 15 amps) - which means there's only 1200 watts capacity left. Add up the rest of the appliances you're running at the same time (TV set, Cable / Satellite box, stereo, toaster, lights, computer, etc.- you get the idea), and you can see how you might have exceeded the 5500 watts capacity of the generator for a few seconds. It's at these times that your hear / see the generator speed falter and sputter, lights dim, etc.. If this is happening a lot, you may need a larger or additional generator.

How many HP is 7 amps?


You can't convert amps to HP because amps are unit for electric current and HP is unit for power. You could calculate power if you also knew voltage because power=voltage*electric current for DC circuits. You would then get result in watts, and you could use formula 1 watt=0.00134102209 HP

Look on the back of the copier. If it doesn't show watts calculate yourself. amps times volts. For instance 120 volts at 15 amps is 1800 watts. Keep in mind this does not use that all the time only when all is on and running, and even then only when the fusing heater lamps are activated. Also look at the paper deck if it has one to see how much power it uses and just add its watts to your copier watts. Add the watts plus watts. The paper decks are minimal compared to the copier. So just going with the copier is enough. Always have a dedicated power source for the copier, because newer copiers are digital. They cannot be hooked to the same plug as a refrigerator or soda machine etc. Noise enter the power line and can cause the copier to do strange things. Always make sure the power plug ground when measured against neutral is less than 1 volt ac. Anymore than that is trouble with digital circuits.
