Location of the engine oxygen sensor for a 2009 Buick lucerne

There are at least 3 oxygen sensors. There is one on each side of the exhaust system as the exhaust leaves the engine. These are the upstream sensors. The exhaust then goes to catalytic converters. If you have two, there is a sensor after each one. These are the downstream sensors. Before replacing a sensor, uou should determine if it is bad. Trouble codes indicating problems with the oxygen sensing circuits may have many causes other than a bad sensor. Also be advised that a special socket is needed to remove an oxygen sensor.

How many oxygen sensors does a safari van have

Common symptoms for failure:
  • Check Engine light is on.
  • Car is getting poor gas mileage.
  • Emission test fails.
  • The O2 sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold to monitor how much unburned oxygen is in the exhaust as the exhaust exits the engine.
  • Starting with a few vehicles in 1994 and 1995, and all 1996 and newer vehicles, the number of oxygen sensors per engine has doubled. A second oxygen sensor is now used downstream of the catalytic converter to monitor converter operating efficiency. On V6 or V8 engines with dual exhausts, this means up to four O2 sensors (one for each cylinder bank and one after each converter) may be used.
  • This site gives generic info, with a list of: Most O2 sensor problems will cause the OBD II system to set one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and turn on the Check Engine light. These are the OBD codes associated with O2 sensor faults: 39 listed You need to test and get the code that in turn tells which sensor.
  • The code displayed on your scan tool will indicate the type of fault, and identify one of the oxygen sensors by its position in the exhaust system.
The oxygen sensor's location will be identified by position (sensor 1, sensor 2 or sensor 3), and by cylinder bank (bank 1 or bank 2).
Most late model engines have multiple oxygen sensors, so which one is sensor 1, 2 or 3, and how do you know which cylinder bank is 1 or 2?
On straight four and six cylinder engines, there is only one bank of cylinders. So all of the oxygen sensors will be bank 1. The oxygen sensor or Air/Fuel sensor closest to the engine in the exhaust manifold will always be Sensor 1. The O2 sensor located in or behind the catalytic converter will be Sensor 2.
On V6 and V8 engines, Sensor 1 will always be on the SAME side as the Number ONE cylinder in the engine's firing order. On GM and Chrysler V6 and V8 engines, cylinder number one is typically the LEFT front cylinder on the driver's side in a rear-wheel drive car or truck.
On a GM front-wheel drive car or minivan with a transverse (sideways) mounted engine, the number one cylinder is on the front side of the engine (closest to the radiator) on the right (passenger side) of the engine.

What is an 02 sensor upstream 98 astro van

02 sensor is your oxygen sensor, 98 chevy astro carries 3 oxygen sensor. i belived your bad sensor is on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold but if not try the drivers side all the oxygen sensor for this van are the same. you need to go under the van to replace it, if is to hard to get it out turn your van for five minutes then turn it off and try again, be carefull not to burn your self. the one close to the catalytic converter is the downstream oxygen sensor ok, good luck!!!!!!

2005 Nissan Altima 2.5L - where is the heated oxygen sensor number 2 located

Oxygen sensors are mounted either side of the catalytic converter. Number 1 is mounted before the cat in the down pipe and the Number 2 is in the exhaust pipe just after the cat, think the number 2 is the downstream.
