there are two locking handles for the adf on either side of the cover of adf
i am sure one of them is broken or disfigured that why when u press it the adf works.i dont think this spare part is available u have to use ur own creative skills to make it through melting plastic to make a hook for that side
First, make sure that the firmware is up to date on the machine. Current revison is 20100902. Download from www.hp.com. That may not fix the problem, actually probably won't but can't hurt to try. I have found that this problem is usually caused by a bad ADF cable or board. Either way, unless you have a donor machine you will need to purchase a new ADF assembly. Part number is
The first thing I always do to a misbehaving ADF is take a dust blaster(canned air) and blow all of the dust and debris out of the ADF,This means lifting the ADF cover and cleaning everywhere.There is always a switch or sensor whose job it is to detect a sheet of paper placed in the ADF.Good Luck.
Not sending multipage faxes I will assume the pages are not feeding correctly. If this is the case replacing the entire ADF would be the easy fix.
Not available new from HP as far as I can tel but available if you search G85 ADF.
