Thank you for the help. the chopper wasn't broken, but it was clogged up with gunk. Cleaned it with a toothbrush and the dishwasher washes like a charm!
Total expenses: $8 for a torx screwdriver.

Sounds like you have a bad chopper. put a cup upright on the top rack. turn the dishwasher on let it wash for about 2 minutes. open the door and see if the cup has water in it. let me know. what brand is this?

try doing the cup upright in the top rack let me know if it fills with water. more than likely you have a broken chopper. you need to remove both racks upper and lower. next you need to remove the lower wash arm by holding the middle piece and twisting the wash arm off. next you need to remove the pice that goes from lower wash arm to upper wash arm. next you need to remove the 4 torque screws. next you need to remove the plate. you will be able to see the area where the chopper is. it is located to the left remove the torque screw. and remove the cap that covers the chopper see if there is broken peices if yes that is your problem. let me know how it goes.

This was spot on for my Whirlpool QuietPartner III GU240xtpB6 model.
Only thing I would add is that the middle bar along the back of the inside unit required two screws to pull off with a box head bit. I found a q-tip and scrunchie in my grinder.

I have a Frigidaire dishwasher, PLD4460. Only 4 years old. The dishes on the top rack are not coming clean anymore. Something as simple as left small bits of broccoli do not even get rinsed out of the...

Hi

If the top rack of the dishwasher doesn't get clean, check your appliance to see if you can fix the problem.
First check the spray Arms to make sure the holes in the spray arms are free and clear of debris. Your dishwasher should have several spray arms, including one at the bottom of the tub, one under the top rack, and possibly a third spray arm on the top of the tub. Sometimes food and mineral deposits can block holes in the spray arms, preventing water from spraying effectively. If this occurs, warm some white vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the holes with the vinegar and dislodge debris with a toothpick or large safety pin.

Then check to see if your dishwasher has clogged filters. Filters generally cover the drain valve area to catch debris as the water drains from the dishwasher. Many dishwashers have maintenance-free filters, but your dishwasher may have filters that need cleaning. Read your owner's manual before you perform any filter maintenance to avoid damaging your dishwasher.

Check your water temperature to make sure it's hot enough. Water that is under 120 degrees Fahrenheit may not be hot enough to clean dishes effectively. Turn your kitchen hot water tap on and wait until the water warms up completely. Fill a cup and measure the water temperature with a kitchen thermometer. If the water is less than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, turn your water heater up to 120 degrees.

Load the top rack properly. Place cups and bowls upside down in the rack and don't nest dishes because this can prevent water from reaching dishes. Don't overload the top rack. Instead, position each item so the dirty areas of the dishes will receive full contact with water spraying up from the main spray arm located beneath the top rack. Prevent items from hanging below the top rack, which could prevent the spray arm from rotating.

Top wond (rack) doesn't clean. Dishes are very dirty at the end of the cycle. However, the bottom rack is fine......please respond asap if possible. Thanking you in advance. Connie

Connie,, make sure in loading the dishwasher you have room for the soap and water to make it to the top rack, (older models) on newer models you have a sprayer just under the rack make sure the sprayers are working fully,, to clean them you can use a hard brush and vinegar,, let stand for 5 minutes and rinse off, also, you can run vinegar ( white) through your machine,, to help clean the jets,, use in place of the soap , then run a couple of times empty to remove and let over odor

Asko 1996 appears "dead".....no lights flashing, won't respond to repeatedly pushing on/off button. Some water left in the bottom...siphoned it out, cleaned filters, no blockage there. Almost like it's...

Don't know if this will help, but my dishwasher has a "propeller" device above the top and bottom racks that spins while dispensing the water. If the dishes on either rack are stacked too high (i.e. if even one plate comes in contact with that propeller, keeping it from spinning properly) the dishwasher will go through its full cycle but will not use the soap (soap door will still be closed and soap packet still intact) and will not get the dishes clean.
However, it sounds like you either have a bit of a drain issue as well--or perhaps your dishwasher acts the same way as mine (if that's the case) but ceases to drain as well if blocked.

Dishes on top rack do not come out clean. Bottom rack O.K.

Have you tried cleaning the filter? We had a similar problem. The repair man came and removed all the spinners and the other stuff at the bottom above the motor to get to the filter. It was blocked with all kinds of old food bits and pieces, the odd bit of plastic film etc. He cleaned it, replaced it and we havn't had a problem since but he said it needs to be done about every two years. It can be done by someone who has reasonable DYI skills.

Dishwaser working, but not cleaning dishes properly

unfortunately, there is no way to run it and see what it is doing. the only way to check if the spray arms are working properly is to put your ear up to the dishwasher while it is running. you should hear the water spraying along the door panel on both the top and bottom ( Note: some dishwashers run the spray arms simultaneously and sometimes they run at seperate times ).
another thing to check is your water temperature. the water must be 120 degrees in the dishwasher in order to clean the dishes properly. also, if your kitchen sink takes a while to get hot water, you will need to run the sink first prior to starting the dishwasher. I have to apply this method at my house because it takes a while for the water to get hot at my sink. if I run it without starting the sink, the water in the dishwasher is 80 degrees or so and will not clean properly.
