Things it could be:

1. Shift cable
2. Shift interlock solonoid
3. Cable running from ignition sw to shifter

also check: shiftlock solenoid is sticking (from gunk in there, spilled soda etc). I would Remove shifter and clean all components first, with attention to the shiftlock solenoid unit

Ignition key stuck

could be an issue with the cable that goes down to the shifter being stiff in cold weather. The key lock may not know the shifter is in park to be able to turn to the lock position.

2003 honda pilot. After the car is turned off the key will not turn far enough to allow it to come out of the ignition.

try to remove the shifter from park and then back.there is a cable that runs from the shifter to the ignition switch to prevent removing the key without vehicle shifter in park. if it is the electronic type, then the switch located at the shifter is busted. the problem is most likely at the shifter

I have a 2003 Chevy blazer xtreme 4.3 v6 automatic transmission and its giving me some issues with the console shifter and ignition system! Every other time I put the blazer in park and try to take the key...

Fixing stuck key in your gmc envoy same as a blazer !
Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

Went to start my car, wouldn't start, key was stuck, wouldn't shift, battery wasn't working, heard a clicking noise in the door, radio flashed once, console light up several times. Help! ...

The most commonly diagnosed component is the shifter and/or shifter solenoid on your Impala.
GM issued a bulletin on this problem. Contact your dealer, they are aware of the problem and you could be covered under warranty. Below is a copy of the bulletin.

Key stuck in ignition able to drive not able to take key out

There is a hole under the steering column you will have to stick a pen in it, and you will hear a "spring" sound and you can remove your keys. Once removed, check your shifter, and clean around it. Sometimes this is caused because your shifter is not completely in park. Other solution is to replace the ignition switch after you get them out. Unless you want to just stick a pen in the hole everytime. Thanks.

Ignition not releasing key promptly

First thing to do when it does it next is to wiggle the gear shift knob button out. The tend to break apart at the hinge and stick, this causes the key to not release. Use two fingers and wiggle the button while pushing it out and see if it releases.

If it doesn't the mechanism one the gear shifter itself most likely has coke/coffee on it and is sticking. It is mounted right under the cup holders.

you can try to clean it by removing the center console, but I would take it to a garage to do it. The center console has to be removed and the mechanism that does into the shifter has to be removed and cleaned with contact cleaner. It then has to be re-greased and reinstalled.

I hope this helps
