Open Question

Rotary head works but is now making a loud squealing noise and is burning plastic. Nothing appears to be blocking the rotary from moving. Has a part fallen off?

On my dyson DC22 canister the rotary brushes stop working, the suction is good. I checked the hose nothing. but a red light comes on on the start button. what to do?

Dyson don't give much help here. The wire to the head must be hidden in the hose? Can you get to where it enters the head and the body of the suction unit?

Have you checked the rotary brush at the front. Although IO dont have the same model of dyson I need to clean out the dog hairs that get wrapped around the main rotary brush which is easily got to by turning the catches with a coin under the cleaning head. They should have a little arrow or padlock symbol showing which way to turn them

My brush stopped spinning, but instead makes a loud plastic grinding noise.

Both ends of the brush roll should spin freely. You need to replace the brush roll.

Very loud click/catching noise - Dyson DC07Allergy

Take the sole plate off the brush bar (with a coin or a screw driver)compartment and check for blockages near the brush bar and make sure the brush bar spins round freely.
Its sounds like the clutch is slipping (it does this to protect it self from burning out when something is stopping the brush bar from turning)
A quick test is when in upright position turn the brush bar knob to off
(usally in drive postion) then try the user position again - the brush bar should not be turning and they should be no noise

You'll have to turn the upright to its side to show the sole plate where the rolling brush is. Check where the front wheels are located and ensure there is no blockage obstructing the rotary dial. Sometimes the spring mechanisms can work themselves loose.
Inevitably you'll have to remove the sole plate and/or the rotary dial which may be screwed down. If it has cracked then you may have to seek a replacement.

Rainbow SE makes Squealing Noise when switching it...
Posted by ray_s51 on Apr 20, 2008
My Rainbow SE works and runs strong but when I switch it on and off for approx. 20 to 30 seconds the motor makes a loud squealing noise. Do I need to oil something or what? Nothing smells, it does not make the noise all the time, but it does more often than not. Thanks

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Rainbow E Series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum.

The Rainbow has 3 fans in the bottom of the motor and if they are weak they will make noise from the motor unit. Watch out… the repair of the Rainbow may exceed the cost of a new motor of which will solve your problem of noise and separator --- compare the cost and the labor and make a decision. The separator is part of the armature, the separator should be able to be removed and that might be one of the things making noise. As normal maintenance the separator should be removed and cleaned after every use and re-installed, then place a newspaper or towel under the motor unit and turn on the Rainbow and spin the moisture out of the motor unit. This should be done every time you use it. If you have further questions please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer. . So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
