Maytag Neptune Front-Load Washers are equipped with emergency access cord that can be used to unlock the door when the door lock mechanism fails to unlock it after a wash load is done. The emergency access cord is located under the top cover and can be accessed through the dispenser bezel. Make sure that power to the machine is disconnected prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.
Remove the four screws securing the dispenser bezel to the top cover then lift the bezel off to access the emergency access cord. Carefully pull the emergency access cord steadily then open the washer door.
The pulling of the emergency access cord overrides the wax motor and the sliding gear is pulled from right to left away from engagement with the rotating gear. It allows the rotating gear to release the wire loop of the door.
The failure of the door lock mechanism to unlock the door is due to a failed wax motor in the extended position. This requires the wax motor to be replaced. Access to the door lock mechanism for the wax motor replacement requires the removal of the front panel and lifting the top cover. Click here for the detailed front panel and top cover removal procedure.
The door lock is faulty. I removed the top cover and removed the red control box from its nylon casing on the lock. I then broke the locking mechanism. Leave the control box connected or it won't work. My machine works but no longer locks so could be a problem if you have small children.
power thenopen the dispenser cover and remove the four screws securing the
dispenser bezel to the top cover then lift the bezel off. The
top cover with the dispenser bezel off can be lifted to the rear of the machine to access the door locking mechanism, but you have to remove the
front panel first.
Open the machine door and remove the four screws located
vertically along the
inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to
the front shroud assembly.
Once the four screws are removed,
grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then
twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the
top of the front panel then move it away and set it aside.

Swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it
slot in the top cover lip.
Open the door then lift the front of the
top cover and tilt it toward the rear of the machine. The door locking mechanism can now be removed and replaced.. Reinstall
the top cover and the front panel by following the removal steps in
Did the screw driver make it out? UNPLUG THE WASHER There are 2 screws at the top of the washer that hold the top cover on. remove the screws and SLIDE the top cover back off the washer. This should expose the door lock assembly, down the right side of the door. There is 1 or 2 screws that need removed and then there is enough wiring that you should be able to pulll the switch where you can work on it.
Now here's the hard part. What probably happened was that the actuator was popped out of its cradle, possibly losing its spring tension. There are clips on on half of the plastic covers(2 halves snapped together). VERY carefully separate the assembly watching for a loose or shooting spring popping out of the covers. If the spring is still on the acauator arm, and hooked in place, good. carefully put the arm back in its cradle. hopefully it snaps in so reassembly is MUCH easier. Simply snap th e assembly back to gether. test the arm with your screw driver to make sure it is springy. Re install the lock where you removed it from the door area. Good Luck.
1. Remove the upper front cover.
2. Gently press the three operator panel lens cover retaining tabs (A) and remove the lens cover. The button membrane is free to remove from the assembly.
3. Disconnect the operator panel cable and remove the operator panel board.
Good luck, Gerrit Jan
Take the main cover off, you should see the discs in he mechanism.
There is a top plastic plate having a circular assembly (a magnetic holder top) in the center - it is positioned just above the center of the discs and holds them in place.
All you need to do is to remove that plate to free the discs.
The top plastic plate is held in place either by two to four screws or by some kind of plastic snap lock.
The screws should be located at the left and right side of the top plate and should be easy to remove, however, i can't say that for sure since i have no assembly details on the unit you use.
If you can't find the screws then there is probably a snap lock assembly. To release it, you need to find where the snap lock is and free the locked teeth with a small screwdriver or similar.
Note that some snap locks are located at the sides of the disc tray mechanism and may require the removal of the whole mechanism to acces the locks and free them (the tray mechanism is usually held in place by four screws - one at each corner, but if you have to remove it, be aware that you will probably need to unplug some connectors before).
If you're unsure about anything, just post me a comment with a description of the mechanism - i will be glad to give you some more precise advice if i can.
Manual roof procedure
The procedure in the manual is just for closing the top.
A) Turn key to OFF for several seconds to bleed off hyd pressure. B) Turn key to MAR (full electrical, but before start) C) Remove cap on bulkhead behind the right-hand seat and use flat head screw driver to unfasten the hyd unit valve in order to relieve the oil pressure in the circuit. D) Remove the cap on the bulkhead behind the left-hand seat and using screwdriver or allen wrench press until the top covering (panel behind roll bars that covers the convertible top well) until the panel's locks are released - you may have to tap the wrench to release the locks. E) Lift the top covering manually and keep it open while extracting the top from its well. F) Remove top from well until the front part is near the windshield frame. G) Lift the rear part of top (rear window) upwards and lower the top covering until the hooks are resting on their respective locks. H) While still keeping rear part of convertible top lifted upward press Button 1 to attach the top covering locks.
Button 1 is the forward one Button 2 is the rear one.
I) Make sure locks are fastened. if not - try pushbutton 1 again. If necessary repeat D and H J) Rest rear part of convertible top on top of covering. K) At front of convertible top, open (deploy) the top's hooks by using allen wrench to turn the pin mechanism. (located in center of front headliner) L) Press top unto windshield frame and use wrench to lock the hooks. M) Press the rear of convertible top, so hooks on rear top insert into respective slots and press Button 2 to secure. N) Keep Button 2 pressed until hooks properly fasten.
If the top is still tightly latched at the front, you can just start at step "G":
While holding the back of the top in the air, and the "top cover" resting down on its "hooks", press button 1 until it seats well.
Then lower the back of the top down to mate its "hooks" and press it down while holding button 2 until the top seats well.
from the underside:
1. remove 4 screws holding agitator cover in place
2. remove 2 screws (black screws) holding hose retainer in place, pull hose out through top
3. remove three screws, 2 long, 1 short holding top cover: short screw is at center of inside of brush housing, long screws are inboard of wheel axles, and slightly forward (all of these screws are aluminum colored)
4. from inside surface of each side, at approx the center, locate and push down on ledge inside right and left inside with a screwdriver to slightly displace the plastic ledge that holds the cover on; this ledge-lock-detent can be released with your fingers. You'll have to support the drive mechanism to allow the top housing to drop free.
5. remove housing, turn vacuum over, then go find the torx driver you need to disconnect the cable.
