Question about Philips Televison & Video

Open Question

Philips DVP3560 plays DVDs with no sound and the picture squashed over on the left-hand side of the screen for the first several minutes of running before picture and sound resolves on its own.

I've got a Philips DVP3560 upconverting DVD player. We've had it for over a year, and just recently it's begun to have an odd problem. When it first begins to play a DVD it will play the DVD with no sound and with the picture squished over on the left-hand side of the screen. I haven't timed how long it does this, but the problem does resolve itself after about 5 minutes, sound comes back and the picture displays normally (across the entire screen). I've checked the HDMI connection, and everything seems to be fine there. Any thoughts as to what is causing this weird problem, and how to get it to not happen (short of buying a new DVD player)?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Samsung 3650 dvd/vcr player loading problem

Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.

SOURCE: DVD player reloads after 5 minutes into the movie

I have a K715 that was having the same problem. The "line select" had been switched from "in" instead of "out". Once I switched it back to "out", the player worked normal.

SOURCE: black rectangle at bottom of screen when playing dvds on sony dvd player

Had the same problem but was able to fix it by simply doing the following:
"this is closed captions turned on your TV. get your original TV remote and look for a button that says "Captions" or "CC", and keep pressing it until the TV says "Off". if it doen't have one of those buttons, you will need to get into the menu of the TV and turn off closed captions there. It is probably set on "Text1 or Text 2" right now, and it needs to be set on "Off"

SOURCE: No sound

Just throw the freeking thing in the garbage. I purchased mine a month before they shot down HD DVD. I purchased a ton of HD movies on Ebay since I paid for the player. No audio....Same issues. I am an electronics technician by trade. I don't know the computer side though. This is a hardware issue and this thing is a piece of ****. I have tried analog outputs, hdmi, optic, and none work. Shame on Toshiba. They knew when they started selling these pieces of **** that Bluray was going to be the format of choice and thats why they wer only $400.....The worst money I ever spent. Now I have a bunch of HDDVD's that I can't play. Double fucked. I would love the thing if I was deaf. Great pic. ******** toshiba!

SOURCE: Picture only shows in black & white when playing DVD

Same problem with an older JVC player. One end of the S-video cable was loose. Pushed in in tight and everything ok again. Cheap fix if it works for you.

If you are talking about it won't play, the laser pickup is the issue, have you tried other dics? if no change! buy a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, this will clean the laser lens and perhaps get it running.

Make sure wires from DVD player are not close to the side of your TV. The radiation from the TV can induce interference on the wires causing bars or static on the screen.

Picture not centered on my philips 47'' lcd tv

NOTE:(Edited and copied from another thread on Fixya.com, c7carl)

Picture is not centered on monitor leaving a 2 1/2 inch; black border on Philips LCD
By dmorrow54 on Nov 13, 2007
Again, nothing in manual for Philips LCD will correct the fact that the picture in HD-D mode will not center. The picture runs off the monitor on the left (facing the monitor) with a 2 1/2" black border on the right (facing the monitor). Using the format button on the remote of directional arrows will not correct the issue. The wide-screen/ full-screen function with format does nothing. Moving into TV mode, the format function works to display screen in several ways 4:3, 19:2, super-zoom, wide-screen, full-screen. Help, please. posted 3 years ago

I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me.

WOW! It works!! The picture on my Magnavox (aka Philips) 37MF321D had shifted to the right. I figured I had a big repair bill coming up soon. But hey! Just used the TV remote as described by "Guest', and re-centered the picture to the left. Wallah! Thanks ""Guest" whomever you are! Reply
