Factory service manuals were produced for computer service technicians.
Due to the vast differences from brand to brand and model to model, a knowledgeable technician is aware of this fact. Do not allow anyone who refuses to become acquainted with the mechanics of disassembly, without first reading the service manual to repair your laptop.

Keep people like Tony the expert who already knows it all away from your computer.

I do agree that someone without technical skills specific to working on delicate electronics such as Laptops/Notebooks, should not attempt to re-flow a motherboard.
From what I have learned from those who have, the hot air gun tool should not exceed 200F to the GPU, which means that distance from the GPU chip-set to the nose of the hot air gun is CRITICAL, so as to not overheat the GPU.
To gauge that, apply a small amount of solder resin paste flux around the perimeter of the GPU.
Allow about 5 seconds after the flux boils/bubbles, then remove the heat.
IMPORTANT:The motherboard must be perfectly level.

If you have to ask for a manual, you should avoid doing a "reflow". Very technically challenging, could destroy your laptop, and should be left to the experts.

I have a big problem with my acer aspire one 8.9".the screen appear blue and i can't push any button.please help me

It sounds as if you have a graphics chip problem. If your laptop is still under warranty take it in for repair. The motherboard will be replaced and this will fix your problem. If however the warranty period is over, then it's best that you do a reflow of the graphic chip using a hot air gun. If you don't have any experience using a hog air gun then it's best to just take it to a solid repair center and tell them to do a reflow of the graphics chip, not to replace the motherboard. If there aren't any good PC service shops then you may want to take it to a TV or Cell phone repair shop and tell them that you'll need the graphics chip reflowed.

If this was helpful and informative please vote with a Thumb Up. Thank you.

- Notebook Pavilion dv2000 black screen will not boot up. Power comes on and keyboard only.

The issue is usually caused by broken solder connections between some chips of the logic board and the PCB itself. There are two ways to fix this problem. If you'd rather not install it yourself, you can have a third party laptop repair service do it for you. If you prefer to do it yourself, you can reflow the GPU (repairs the solder connections) or replace the logic board alltogether. If you want to replace it, get the part and ebay and use a Laptop repair guide that teaches you how to install the part yourself. If you want to reflow, Google how to reflow a motherboard and you will find ways to re-heat the board to repair the solder connections, chances of success of DIY reflow are around 50%.

Laptop doesnt stay on

You have the usual nVidia graphics chip failure. Call HP or email them, you may qualify under the recall program and get it replaced for free. If they won't replace it, take apart your laptop (service manuals are available on HP's site, with a bit of patience you can do it yourself, or ask someone else) and send your motherboard for reflow. Reflowing the board will cost about $60, it's certainly cheaper than buying a new motherboard that will fail in the same way.

To prolong its life after reflow it is recommended to put a copper shim and thermal paste between the graphics chip and the cooler, instead of the thick and poor quality thermal pad that they put there. In fact that is the main reason why the chips fail - they don't actually break, they detach from the motherboard.

Screen stays black

You may find that GPU is gone bad. Temporary fix would be reflowing your chips connections. Go to You Tube and put reflowing motherboard or GPU in search and see how it's done. Be careful you may ruin your system. To be honest it's risky and there's also possibility that chip is completely dead and reflowing will not help. In this case chip needs replacing but i would just get a new motherboard because it's very interesting but complicated to do it yourself without right tools. Hope this helps and good luck

Acer travelmate 8006lmi when turned on only the power light and dvd drive work nothing on the display and nothing if you connect an external monitor either

The graphic chip is dead. replace the motherboard or reflow the graphic chip. I am not fan of BGA reflow. The seldom last beyond 90days.

Good Luck

360 stopped working

Your video chip has overheated and needs reflowed. If it is under warranty send it to microsoft. If it isn't you will have to find a service center that can reflow it. I work at one that can reflow it. It is one of the only service centers in the midwest that can do it.
