Bobbins for a singer special edition cir. aprox 1960s

Have a friend who has a singer Special edition probably from the 1960s. She needs some bobbins for it. It does wind in the machine rather than on top of it. Can you give us any idea as to the type of bobbin and where we could find it?

Your local Singer dealer should be able to help with this one. There are several good generic bobbins available and i suspect it will need to be metal rather than plastic. Also check the depth of any bobbins so that they fit in the case or the fixed case without being lose or too high. Lower than the bobbin case can work.

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind

I have checked the gears underneath and see no missing teeth for the bobbin part. The bobbin "seat" does raise, but does not engage. Thanks

SOURCE: Problem with winding thread onto

first you must make sure the winder shaft is turning by moving it to the right a little and see if you can turn it by hand.
If it is turning ok then there is a rubber ring on the other end of the winder shaft and it should come in contact with the drive which turnes it ,if it is worn it might need a new rubber.

SOURCE: Singer 6267 self winding bobbin winds around shaft under

I just figured out why my bobbine was winding on shaft instead of on the bobbin. first of all make sure the bobbin is setting up high enough, top of bobbin needs to be a fraction higher then the bobbin shuttle, next check to make sure there are no burrs on the bobbin, then make sure that the thear is catching in the groove (**** in top) of the bobbin. In order to get mine to wind i had to lett the tread go down and then slip the thread in the groove. also remember to leave the pressure foot up do not put it down. let me know if this helps.

More than likely you have a broken vertical shaft gear.

When you turn the handwheel you should see the sewing hook moving under the bobbin case.

If not, take it to a sewing repair person and it should cost somewhere around $100 to repair.

HELP PLEASE!!!! Need to figure out how to fix a Singer's Sewing Machine's drop in bobbin casing for my Singer 90s Special Edition???

Sounds like bird nesting or thread nesting (a user error), where there are thread "barfs" under the fabric. This is caused by the top thread not being seated in the tension disk. Remove the thread from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the upper thread!!! Rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct. Set the upper tension at the midway point between high & low numbers--you'll probably need to tweak it for your particular machine.

Remember, when experiencing problems, install a brand new needle. Remove the thread from the machine, RAISE the presser foot, and rethread from the beginning.

It also helps to always pull the bobbin thread to the top of the fabric, gently hold both thread tails in your left hand, and then slowly take the first couple of stitches.

How to thread the bobbin of a singer 90s

First make sure that the needle is fully up (use the hand-wheel). Move the bobbin cover release button to the right and lift the bobbin cover out of the way. Remove the current bobbin, if needed. Hold the new, full bobbin so that the thread comes off the bobbin counter-clockwise when you pull the thread. Place the bobbin into the bobbin case. Pull the thread through the slot near the bottom of the case and to the left. Place a finger on top of the bobbin. Next bring the thread left further towards the back of the bobbin case until it stops in the second slot (near the 8 o'clock position if you compare the position to a 12-hour analog clock). Pull the thread back through the groove in the cover plate until it is cut by the thread cutter at the top left of the cover plate. (The thread will turn a "corner" to the cutter.) Replace the bobbin cover.

Singer has the manual for most of their sewing machines here: http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals . The direct link to the manual for the 90S is http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/26e7243ab52aaed42904377fea7b090541eb0c9b.pdf . See pages 16-17 (page 18 in the PDF for the English description) and pictures that may be better than the verbal description.

I hope this helps.

Singer 6268 bobbin winding

I've never seen this type of winding system. But from the manual on page 10, it shows that in order to disengage the machine from sewing mode.. you need to have the bobbin cover slide plate slightly open.

Also make sure that your bobbin doesn't have any burrs. If it does, toss it and use a new one.

Singer 237 - the bobbin thread is not catching by the needle. Have loosened the tension - any suggestions?

You can try a new needle, (flat side facing away from you) and if that doesn't work, it is probably your timing. And that is not a do it yourself job because you need special tools and expertise.

Does the singer model 3820 take a special bobbin? I cannot get it to feed the thread up to the needle.

It takes a singer or universal bobbin with a flat top - not one of the plastic ones that has a curve to the top.

I just purchase a Singer 301 and cant get the bobbin case out

Raise the bed extension, revealing the bobbin area. Gently pull out on the bobbin case latch and it should pop right out in your hand. Congrats on your 301, they are wonderful machines!

Bobbins are specific to machines.........if you are trying to use a non-singer bobbin, the diametre and depth may well be several millimetres different and will result in what you describe.

Ask for plastic singer bobbins for a top loader......if you contact Singer or an agent, they will give you a part number and will probably ship to you as well.........get a few and have all your colours ready, not all layered on just a couple !
