What do yon and yfrn mean in a knitting pattern?

yon is usually Yarn On (or over) Needle. This is a yarn over between a purl and a knit stitch. (After the purl stitch, keep the working yarn in front of the needle. Then place the right needle into the next stitch so that the right needle is behind the left needle in the stitch. Wind the yarn around the needle and pull the loop through.)

yfrn is a Yarn foward and round the needle. This is a similar yarn over to the yon but is a little larger. The difference is that the yarn over is done after a knit stitch and before a purl stitch. After the knit stitch, bring the yarn in front of the needle. Wrap the yarn anti-clockwise around the right needle so that the yarn is again at the front of the work. Place the right needle in the front of the next stitch on the left needle. Then do a normal purl stitch.

I hope this helps.

I am looking for a 4 ply sweater pattern raglan sleeve

Check at hobby stores that sell yarn, ie Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. There are usually a lot of booklets or pamphlets with patterns. Even some yarn brands include patterns with their skeins.

What does the abbreviation SKTPO in knitting stands for?

The abbreviation explanations should be included in your pattern instructions. Pattern designers sometimes use different abbreviations so it is best to refer to the included instructions.

What is yfwd?

yfwd = yarn forward

This is an eyelet hole which appears between 2 Knit stitches.
If worked between after the 5th knit (K) stitch in a pattern, it would be written in the pattern thus: K5, yfwd, K...

**To work this, bring the yarn between the needles to the front of the work as shown here.

All you do to complete a yfwd is to bring the yarn towards you.

Show me how to knit a ruffled scarf

It's actually the wool- the stitch is a simple knit but the wool is actually ribbon like in suture and you simply pull it out when complete. Most of the yarns have inductions on their band. This is the yarn I use: Hope this helps.

We have a french knitter with instructions on how to use but the instructions say to refer to illustration 1, 2 etc. we have no illustrations to look at thus making it very hard to use for the first time....

I know this toy by the name of "knitting knobby". To use, get the knitter, yarn and a crochet hook or cable needle.

Thread the yarn down the center of the knitter until about 10 cm (just under 4") is visible. Wrap the yarn counter-clockwise around one of the spikes on the knitter (not too tightly). Turn the knitter counter-clockwise and repeat the counter-clockwise wrapping of the yarn on each spike. Next wrap the yarn counter-clockwise around the first spike and lift the bottom loop up and over the top loop off the spike so that it falls into the center of the knitter. Leave the remaining loop in place (it will be the bottom loop of the next round). Turn the knitter counter-clockwise and repeat the wrap and lift off of the bottom loop. Pull on the yarn in the center to tighten the work as needed - after a few rounds the weight will help with the tension on the final product. Continue around the knitter for as many rounds as needed to get a desired length of material. Cut the yarn to leave a 10 cm tail and thread the tail through the remaining loops to cast off. Then pull the end tight.

If you wrap the yarn too tightly you won't be able to lift it up and off the spike. An alternative method for the first round is to wrap the spikes twice counter-clockwise and lift the bottom yarn up and over the top loop into the center at each spike.

I hope this helps. Additional pictures and directions can be found with google. and are nice sites.

SINGER 700 - Knitting Machine - 2nd yarn does not knit or (patter

Not sure where you are located, but this may be a problem for a KM mechanic to fix.

If you are a bit handy with a screwdriver, you could turn the arm over ans see that the alignment for the yarn gate is determined by two phillips head screws near the magnets. There is a little bit of play as the screws go through slots not holes. If you loosen the screws and pull the yarn gate towards back of the plate this should place the yarn in the latch hooks of needles.

The other thing is that you should ensure that the brushes are set to the circle, not the weave position.
