Apple tv hdmi and BOSE V30 no DD 5.1

I connected Apple TV through HDMI to Samsung 52LE TV and then through optical to BOSE V30 AUX port. It works however I have issue with sound. The downloaded movies are DD 5.1, but the sound is only 2.0 (PCM) on the BOSE Sound System. What should I do change it?

SOURCE: Apple TV and Bose Home Theater

I had the same problem.
I could not get HDMI to HDMI to work.

i fixed it (work around), by connecting ATV HDMI to DVD HDMI port on V30, i then connect L&R to AUX.  I set the Bose remote for controlling ATV to AUX.
so to use ATV with Bose remote i know press DVD, this gives me the correct display but not audio, i then press AUX and this gives me ATV control and audio.

interesting, when i first set this up (trial and error), it didn't work.  I was doing some cable management clean up, when i got a fright and the thing started working...but i have a ghost in my house so that is probably a more plausible reason why its working now.
it feels like this product is only 90% finished

SOURCE: I try to plug apple

You might want to try connecting the Apple TV to your TV using HDMI, then using the optical cable from your TV to your Bose system. In your TV's settings, there should be an Audio Output option. You'll want to turn off the TV speakers. Optical audio can be a little strange compared to traditional analog. If your cord is going bad, it could result in behavior like you described.

SOURCE: hdmi conflictng with optical

there are different qualities of HDMI cables. one that is a version 1.3 will not be able to properly transmit as well as a version 2.0. digital transmission is only as good as the conduit that it must travel through. if you loose quality it might be because your asking your wires to carry more than it can.

The BT205 only has a HDMI Out so you need to connect both your BT205 and Apple TV to your TV either directly or through your splitter (depending how many HDMI Inputs your TV has).

You then need to connect either the Digital or Analogue Audio Port from your Apple TV to your BT205 and select the Audio Output from your BT205 as detailed on Page 27 of the manualat the link below.

This will give you the picture from your Apple TV to your TV via the HDMI and the Apple TV sound to your BT205 via the Audio Port.

How to set up with apple tv

because the apple tv has hdmi as well as optical audio output, you could run hdmi to the tv and the tv to the system, hdmi to the system and then to the tv, or hdmi to the tv and optical audio to the system. thats the rough idea.

hook up computer straight to t.v with hdmi cable. then get two aux cables (usually red and white) and run them straight from tv audio OUTPUT to audio INPUT on bose system. them anytime you want surround sound even when your watching tv just press the aux button on the bose system controller. should be perfect.

Apple TV and Bose Home Theater

You should be able to connect hdmi from apple tv to bose v30 for picture and sound. You can also run component video to bose and a hdmi out of bose to tv. Just make sure your running hdmi out of bose system to tv if your tv supports hdmi if not use component video cable. Another way which isn't as good of quality is to run fiber optic from apple tv to bose v30 and hdmi straight to tv.

Use the component. If your tv is running correctly it should not lose quality through the component system. HDMI is simply a High Def Multiple Interface, meaning that it combines the Visual with the Audio signal in the same cable. Refer to your documentation on your sattelite box to see if there is a solution. But remember that the HDMI may be carrying what the actual broadcast sound is as not many if any channels are transmitted in 5.1 dts.
