I have 4 of 5 computers connected to my router. The fift shows the wireless connection but can not get broadband access. Is there a common issue in this situation? Is there a common debug path I can follow to resolve? Note that I have tried both a wired and wireless connection to the router, so I think the issue is in my Windows XP configuration versus the connection. I am thinking that I may need to modify my networking device properties or something of that nature.

Try to disable any firewall on that computer like norton firewall, mcafe firewall, zone alarm and the likes. If that didn't work. Check the TCP/IP properties if its using static IP. Just set it to Obtain IP Address and Obtain DNS. Then restart the computer. Or it could only be a browser settings. On your Internet Explorer click on Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings, make sure nothing is checked on there. Click ok all the way out then try if you can go online.

Just try to interchange only the computers not the connections, one of the four computers functioning to the fifth computers not functioning. To ease the suspection if the computer function properly, If not then you better refomat the OS of that computer. After refomatting then connect again the computer. If ever all five computers working properly even you interchange then the trouble is in the wireless connection .You better review the step procedures in wireless connection maybe you have something omitted.

Hope it may helps:

Wired connection randomly drops

Since the wireless works fine on your router, then it is possible that there is a problem either on your ethernet cable or on the port of the belkin router.
Try a different ethernet cable. (Ethernet cable is the one that is connected from your computer to the router.) If you don't have a spare cable, you can directly connect the computer to the modem, just to isolate the issue and determine if it is the cable or the computer itself.
If you have determined that the cable is working fine, then try a different port on the router.
I hope this helps!

No internet signal from router

To isolate the concern, it would be better to test the non working computer to the modem. If it works, that means there is a problem with the router and if it isn't then it is a problem with the pc..

If the computer works fine on the modem, you can try the following to check if the router works fine:

1. The modem should be connected to the router's WAN/Internet port.
2. The computers should be hard wired to the router's numbered port
3. On the router's setup page, go to the Status tab and check if the Internet IP address and the DNS are populated. If not, that means the router is not functioning correctly.
4. Go to the wireless tab and make sure that the SSID is customized. Make sure that the wireless computer is connecting to the said SSID.

If those had been checked and it still does not work, you can try updating the firmware of the router, reset and reconfigure it.

However, if the computer does not work on the modem. You may need to have it checked.

make sure the wireless part of the router is working fine by trying a computer to connect wirelessly to the router. if it connected fine then it is a matter of matching the wireless settings of the router and the xbox in order for them to synchronize properly.

3. If still not working if computer is set to obtain ip automatically, try assigning static ip on wireless pc

when enabling wireless security the router and adapter must be both be configured and configured in a fashion that both support. If you need help provide confirmation of your wireless router's manufacturer and model and the same information for any wireless adapters or computers with built-in wireless adapters to be wirelessly connected.

This will allow us to determine the common security options for all wireless devices you have.

No connection

One thing to check is to make sure your dad connected to your wireless environment because so many people have wireless routers today he may have accidentally connected to a neighbor, and the low/non-existent signal strength will cause him to not have an internet connection. Also make sure no one messed with the router configuration because there is an option to turn off the wireless capability of the router. If it got turned off then turn it on and you should be good to go.
