SOURCE: Microwave will not turn off

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. Other times, it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can probably find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

Manual for a whirlpool microwave oven model wmh31017aw-1

There is no turntable control. It is always on. The turntable should change direction each time the unit is used. If the turntable is not operating, it has malfunctioned. Newer microwaves for the most part all have full-time turntables to promote even heating, thus reducing customer complaints about ovens that don't heat right.

Will not power up after power outage

it contains two fuses one of 10 Amps and other for 500mA.
Replace 10Amps fuse with same type and rating.Best thing is to take this fuse and show it to the sale person of electronic shop.
Before you touch any parts of the microwave oven please disconnect the mains power chord and never touch the main power capacitor as this contains very high voltage even after disconnection.

Sparp R 930 not heating, turntable not turning

I just repaired mine with the same symptoms. I found that the bottom microswitch on the door (there are 3 switches) was faulty. It started as open, when the door closed, the switch closed (good), but when the door was fully closed the switch was open again. I went to Electronic City with the switch in hand, they found me a duplicate that cost me $2.50. BTW - you must take out the door switch assembly, 3 screws plus wires, in order to work on the switch. Also, put the assembly back in so that the door latches close/open the switches correctly. -jk

GE spacemaker Power goes off and clock needs resetting

Try going to the breaker box and shutting off the power to the microwave for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn back on and set the clock. This fixed my clock and turntable both. Apparently turning off the power resets the software in the clock.

I have a Whirlpool AMW545 built in microwave oven. The turntable continuosly runs with the door shut when the microwave is not in use. The turntable will stop rotating if the door is opened.

the controller for the turntable is shorted out or welded its contact if its a relay. the door has safety switches that turns off the electrical connection to the turntable and magnetron once you open the door. you can trace the switch that runs the turntable. start from the power supply, goes to the door switch then to the controller before it goes to the turntable motor. i'm sure it has an electrical diagram at the inner wall of the cover.
i hope i was able to help.
