Question about Staples M5 Mailmate Shredder

Open Question

I have a Staples Mailmate XPL-Txc12m7a and cannot pull out the bin that holds the shredded papers. The blue light is on, so I know there is power.

The bin that holds the shredded paper will not pull out. I haven't used the shredder for a few months, but it worked fine in the past.

SOURCE: My shredder runs but won't grab the paper that I'm

Look down into the slot to see if the teeth are sharp. They should have little J-hook thingys that look like the teeth in your mouth. If it looks ok, give it some food to chew. If it burps it up, throw it away because its a junker and not worth your time.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: Runs continuous when turned on, but stops when paper is inserted

I owe this to a Steve-EE.

Mine was the LED where the paper feeds. $1.69 for a 2 pack.

Yes you do need to oil the blades, but it is important to get the right oil. Most stores that sell shredders, like Staples Office Supply, also sell shredder oil. J.

SOURCE: Automatic switch does not shut off after shredding

These shredders have a "paper in" sensor. This is either optical or mechanical.
Sounds like the sensor is blocked and therefore "thinks" there is still more paper left, and this is why it keeps going.

Before you do anything UNPLUG THE SHREDDER.
The sensor is located about in the middle and at the level of the blades.
If it's mechanical, you should see a little finger, else it is electronic.
Shine a light in the area and you should be able to spot where the blockage is.
A shot with compressed ais usually gets rid of the offending particles.

After you're finished working on it, set it back securely on the basket and plug it in.

SOURCE: gears not working. paper

There are 6 holes on the underside of the shredder, corresponding to 6 screws that have to be unscrewed. One of the 6 has a gray round QC seal over it which you must break in order to access that last screw (in the center of the unit). The idea is that if you have broken this seal, then you've voided your warranty.

Sometimes the sensor gets blocked by pieces of shredded paper. Unplug the unit and remove it from the paper bin. Turn it upside down and see if there are any "stray" pieces of shredded paper hanging on the unit. Remove the stray and replace the unit onto the bin making sure it is properly seated. If that is not the problem, try "tamping" the shredded paper into the bin and by doing so, giving the machine more room for the shredded paper. If neither of these help, refer to your owner's manual to see what recourse you may have.

How do you remove the top to see the gears in a Royal 16CDX cross cut paper shredder. The overload message is displayed, and I don't know how to get it unjammed.

a possible solution is to UNPLUG the unit, reach in from underneath and start pulling stuck paper out. On mine (different model) I can remover the paper receptacle bin and reach up to remove stuck paper. this usually is caused by overloaded bin pushing shredded paper back up to cutters because it is overfull......BE SURE TO UNPLUG FIRST !!!!!

No power to Staples mailmate

There is a 10mm 5amp @ 250v fuse on the main board that is probally blown . I unsoldered mine and soldered a pigtail fuse holder with a convient sized 5 amp fuse inside in its place . The shredder is not too bad to take apart , the head comes apart from the body of the shredder .Turn it upside down and you will see 6 or 7 phillips screws .Once these are removed the head assembly opens up and you will see the circuit board which is held in place by 2 phillips screws. A quick ohm meter test will reveal the fuse condition. It was an easy fix just MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE UNIT UNPOWERED while you work on it or its unassembled.

How to disassemble the mailmate spl-727MM. I think there are 2 screws from the bottom under the rubber pads and I think you need a long screw driver but what kind? Phillips or regular? No. 1 or No. 2?

1. Remove the two rubber pads (only two out of four pads with Phillips screw, you should be able to see which two).
2. Use a long Phillips screw driver to remove the two screws
3. You may still not able to remove the the housing because there are double side tapes sticking the front part of the housing to the shredder's base, use a ruler (steel ruler) to detach the tapes
4. You should be able to pull out the housing (the machine should be up-side-down) and you should be able to do what you wanted to fix.

Enjoy.

Staples SPL-1506X Shredder Issue

I had the same problem. I have a solution but I do not recommend this unless you have technical experience with repairing electrical appliances. I took the back cover of the main shredder unit to expose the wiring (there are 7 screws in total). The bin full sensor has a blue, green, and red connected to it. I clipped the blue wire to defeat the Bin Full error. You can look through the plastic window to check that the bin is full.
