Since about 3:00pm yesterday I cannot open Firefox. I cannot reset or do anything. I don't want to uninstall as I will loose all my book marks. Is there anything else I can do. Thanks, Clive Shea -

You've probably been infected with malware which has killed your browser.
Assuming you are an administrator on your machine you could use system restore to back date your machine to yesterday or earlier.

(Windows 7)
Press Start
The in the search box type
rstrui.exe

(Windows 8.x)
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
  2. Enter Control Panel in the search box, and tap or click Control Panel.
  3. Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then tap or click Recovery.
  4. Tap or click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions.

This will start the system restore program. Follow the instructions by selecting a restore date prior to the day you tried to install that program and the machine will attempt to heal itself automatically.

Once you have got the machine back working you might want to consider installing a program like Malwarebytes (It has a free version) and do a scan for malware form time to time.

Thank you for downloading Malwarebytes Anti Malware

Use the right side download link unless you want to pay for the full version.

How do set my computer back to an earlier date

WinXP:
Start > Hover mouse cursor on All programs > Go up to Accessories > Over and down to System Tools > Over and down to System Restore.

Win Vista / Win 7:
Click on the Windows logo button > Control Panel > System Restore.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

The thing is System Restore keeps bumping the date up.
May not be a System Restore date to go to.

Suggest go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, instead.

When i log off it goes into a restore program and takes at least half an hour to start

Try this, open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Preformance, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, use this procedure to adjust power options: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms700612(v=vs.85).aspx ALSO, always shut down from the "Start" button, select "Shut down", if you use the on/off button the software "ID's" it as a crash, hence the startup error messages. Two more things, Open MSCONFIG select Normal Startup, use this procedure: http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html , Run a SCAN FILE from CMD prompt using this procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Post results.

My computer automatically shuts down then restarts again. It's so irritating!

1. Open the Start Menu.

A) Click on All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and System Restore.

2. Open the Control Panel (All Items View).

A) Click on the Recovery icon.
B) Click on the Open System Restore button.

A 'System Restore' window will appear. Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time'

A) Click on the Next button

Now you will find a window with Dates, Description and Type,

Note: It is better if you could remember from which date you are facing the issue, try to select a date prior to that date.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start. Click on the Finish button and windows will take a reboot.

Help me i cant find any driver for my samsung r530

Since you didn't mention the exact model like Samsung R530-JA03 etc.. I am unable to give you the specific link. This LINK is the download page link for Samsung R530-JA03 Notebook. Open the link, locate "Driver" sub-menu below the "Downloads", "FAQS", "Service Location", "Specifications" tabs and click it, all the available downloadable drivers will be displayed with their respective download icons i.e. icon with "zip". If this isn't your model, you can select your model from the "Find a product" section on the right-hand side of the page.

Let me know if you need further help.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

hi
the procedure you followed was right
now you just go through these steps

  1. Step 1 Click the "Start" button.
  2. Step 2 Click on "Help and Support". There's a blue circle with a question mark in it next to the name.
  3. Step 3 Click on "Undo changes to your computer with "System Restore".
  4. Step 4 You will get a dialog box that offers you three choices that you choose by clicking on the option button:
Restore my computer to an earlier time (this is the one that you want.

You also have the choice of creating a restore point, or undo my last restoration.

Click on "Restore my computer to an earlier time". Then click "Next" at the bottom of the dialog box.
  5. Step 5 You will be supplied with a cal ender, from which to choose a previous date to restore to. I always choose the last date that my computer was still running properly.
  6. Step 6 You will see a warning page telling to shut down any open programs. The messages also assure you that you won't lose any information, and that the restore is completely reversible. Windows will shut down your computer, and start it back up with the settings that were in effect on the date and time that you restored to.
some other use ful applications are found in----

If you have been running System Restore to create backup configuration files, try this before attempting the procedure below:

- Click on Start
- Click on run to open the window
- Type the word 'restore' and then OK - This will open a folder with the UI program in it, on my system (XP on auto update) named 'rstrui.exe' - double click on this.
- With the Restore window open, the default will be 'Restore my computer to an earlier time'
- Click on 'Next'
You should now have a calendar on the screen and (hopefully) some calendar dates in bold
Select one that occurred before you zapped your sound driver.

Restore does not tamper with files or documents you have created but will put system files back where they belong if lost for any reason.

If you still haven't recovered your sound facilities, follow the steps below.
---------
Open the Control Panel, then System, click onHardware, then Device Manager.

Scan down the list and open (click on the + ifnot already open) the Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
You should see a number of generic terms and atleast one that is obviously a company name.
There may be an 'X' next to it indicating thatit isn't functional.

Regardless whether it is marked as defective ornot, right click on the entry. This will bring up a short menu.
Left click on Properties.
If the system thinks your device is working, itwill say so under the General tab and will either state that it is working oroffer troubleshooting help.
At this point, note the maker of the sound chip;you may need it later.
If the chip (it is almost certainly on the mainboard) is responding, then open the Sounds and Audio devices find the maker'sname under the Hardware tab, delete it and then reboot your PC.

Win should 'find' a 'new device' and try to finda driver from its library.
If it fails to find one, it will ask for thechip's CD (installation software).
If you don't have one, you will have to go tothe manufacturer's website and download a new driver. Be sure to note its nameand put it where you can find it again.

Reboot again and (hopefully) Win will 'find' itagain and then when asked for a driver, you can direct it to the new driver.

It is wise to have a very complete system report that will give you about 4 pages of information about your system.
Belarc Advisor, which is free and available at the link below can be of help toanyone trying to deal with problems such as the one you have:

Belarc Advisor

Run it and save the report on a backup disk (or print it out) soit is accessible when your system is down.
Having this report handy when Wintel or AMD systems are goingnuts is a good place to start troubleshooting.
