Question about Microsoft Windows 95 + Internet Explorer for PC

1 Answer

Alarm on boot (PC)

Have intel P4 2.60 GHz CPU, MSI SiS 661FX MOBO S/V/L 800FSB with 1 GB RAM which I have been using for years without problem. I've recently retired, moved from Houston to rural North Texas farm. Now when boot attempted get 7 seconds of tone, 4 secs of silence (repeats). System has two hard drives, CD and DVD R/W drives, as well as ZIP and 3.5" floppy drive... and a Promise ULTRA 133 card to support the extra drives.

Run W2K Pro... but current problem does not let the system get that far (nor do any boot messages appear on screen, normally there are quite a few as various systems come online)

Currently clueless as to cause and solution. Have checked cable connections, power, etc without resolution.

Help greatly appreciated.

Your computer is failing its POST (diagnostics). open the case and reseat all the cards and memory. make sure your CPU's cooling fan runs when you power up. recheck the disk drive cables and power connectors. good luck!

Which intel motherboard ( model detatil) is suitable for an intel dual core 2.6 Ghz processor?also what should be the capacity of ram that may suitably mathe the intel dual core 2.6 Ghz processor?

Assuming the CPU you have is an E5300 2.6 duo 45nm then use an LGA 775 mobo.

For Win XP / Vista run at LEAST 2gb (Preferably 4GB) Ensure the mobo specs are compatible with the type of ram also.

Alarm on boot (PC)

The repeated tone and silent intervals is a way the motherboard has to communicate that there is a problem with a hardware component.
Every motherboard has its own "language" and the sequence of beeps and silent means different things among brands.
Look into the manual, to find out the meaning.

Sometimes a faulty memory module may induce a computer to act as you described.
To make a quick test, remove the memory and start the pc without it.
If the tone and silent are the same, then clean the memory slot from dust, reset the memory in place, and try again.
If still no behavior's change....then you should get a new memory module.
Good luck

Update BIOS to P25 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&Inst=Yes&ProductID=948&DwnldID=10130&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

Reset BIOS to default settings.

Check CPU Temperature, Prescott CPUs run hot.

If board is under 3 years old and was a retail box package, it will be under warranty, contact Intel.
