I called Lowes then Utilitech and they sent me a new impeller. There were no instructions about how far to thread the impeller onto the post. I am going back in to thread it all the way to the top. I wish I had requested a brass impeller.

Yes.Get the new impeller,take the unit apart,remove the impeller and put the new one on.Just do it.You never know tilya find out.Only way to find out is to just DO IT.

sounds like you need a new water pump impeller.
to access the impeller the bottom of the motor needs to be unbolted and the impeller is fitted to the shaft, it is keyed so it only goes on one way. ( impeller kits will come with new gaskets,grease.O-rings and a new key ). re-bolt the lower unit and test.

The bearing needs to be pressed onto the ceramic shaft before inserting the impeller into the housing. Then it just drops in (while trying to hold on to it the best you can to keep it from slamming in.). New bearings didn't come with the new impeller? If not you will have to carefully pry out the old bearing from inside the housing.

No, but it could be the impeller inside the water pump, has come loose from the impeller shaft.

A leaking seal indicates that the bearing, or bearings, for the impeller shaft are bad.

I have replaced water pumps, (With a brand new one), and have had to remove it, and reinstall with another one.
Why?
Impeller is spinning around on the impeller shaft. The machining done was a bad job, and the impeller wasn't staked to the impeller shaft.

Grinding noise is due to a cracked impeller which can be accessed by removing the spray arm. Sometimes a poor washing complaint is common after this wash impeller has cracked. Remove power first before investigating.


The motor shaft has started to rust and swells out and this swelling cracks the upper impeller. Most times a new seal and impeller kit can cure this complaint but sanding and cleaning of motor shaft is required before replacing the new seals and impellers.
