Question about Dell Inspiron 1521 Notebook

2 Answers

I have windows Vista and an old Dell inspiron notebook, when I restarted my computer as it gets to the green bar that flashes by and says Microsoft Corporation under it after awhile I get a quick blue screen then it restarts automatically. What should I do? I've never had this problem and could it be my HDD? or my processor?

How old is the notebook? It is possible that it cannot run Vista as an OS due to either (a) your processor not being powerful enough; or (b) your hard drive not being large enough to support all of the components; or (c) no drivers.

On another computer go to dell's website and find some compatible Vista drivers for your laptop. Download them onto a flash drive, then download them to your laptop and set them up. See what happens then.

Did you reinstall Vista on any of the newer hard drives? You still might need to go to dell's website and find drivers for your particular laptop. Also, check your formatting.

Your comment about "missing files to reformat" makes no sense to me. The whole purpose of formatting a drive is that it makes the drive "blank" so that you can install things like operating systems.

You should have a professional computer guy take a look at it. You might not have the right hard drive for the device (the drive you buy should be (a) laptop ready; and (b) match the motherboard's specs.

I want to start safe mode on inpriron 11420

From what i see in your specs the Dell Inspiron 1420 came with Win Vista. I assume you have upgraded, Did you check Win 8 compatibility with your hardware? You may have exceeded the hardware components limitations. Therefore it will not run Win 8 with much sucess, and will continue to crash, Check here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirements. That said, I would use win 7 at the most.

Try to change the resolution of your computer to lower, restart the computer and see if the problem still exist. if the problem still exist try to reinstall the video driver of your computer. don't rewrite the driver of the video device, uninstall the driver then install again. if any thing happens feel to reply.
