Question about Jenn-Air JCB2280HES Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a very bad smell coming from the back of my refrigerator. The fridge itself is clean and there isn't any turned food inside. I can't figure out what's causing this awful smell.

There is a pan built in under the unit that the water drains into when the defrost timer activates. the heat from the coils usually evaporates this water, but if the coils are filled with dust the air circulation is blocked and the pan will have stale water remain in the pan.the coils should be cleaned and the pan also. this can be done with a little help from an air compressor and paper towels

Have you cleaned out the Freezer recently. We had the same issue with a rotten smell that we thought was from the fridge section, but found that it was actually from the freezer. Turns out it was just really old food.

We have a new side by side Samsung refridgerator and it has a bad odor. we have cleaned the whole thing out twice, moved ALL the food out and placed it in another fridge. the smell is still there.

I'm having the same problem, and have isolated the source of smell to be inside the deli drawer box... but I cannot figure out how to get the cover off the box. It comes out of fridge, disconnect the wire at back... but cannot open the "container" that the draw fits in.

Bad smell from motor

Hello,

You need to remove any spoiled food from the refrigerator and clean the interiors with hot water added with baking soda. You need to clean the door seals and remove the breaker strips. Also check for unusual wet insulation.
Hope this work

Bad smell old food in unpluged refridge

The smell has permeated the plastic, set a fresh box of baking soda in the fridge. Give it a few days and clean it with awesome or murphys oil soap. You can also use comet cleanser but if to much rubbing will scratch the plastic.

Odor from outside of Refrigerator

pull out the fridge and remove the back panel, and clean that area. Make sure no food is stuck under the fridge also. A rotten piece of fruit or other food, once under there, will smell until it totally decomposes. We have seen this before. Hope this helps!

Bad smell coming from fridge

Is there any chance that small food particles have simply fallen into the fan and now trapped near or behind the fan ?

If this is the case, the food may be lodged in such a way that either heat given off from the fan or the fact the food may not be getting cool/frozen any longer, may have sent the food bad and is now generating the smell you describe.

I don't know of any fridge gas that smells like fish or funk as you put it, most are fairly neutral smelling or odorless to a point and certainly would not smell the way you have described.
  • Make sure the area is well ventilated ( run a pedestal fan nearby or open a window ), fridge gas can be harmful, even in small amounts ( especially if you don't know you're breathing it ), and if the smell is as bad as you say, you may very well be gasping for air.
  • Always have someone nearby when you attempt to do your own repair work of this nature, you just never know when you might need their assistance.
  • If you plan on looking into the problem yourself, firstly ensure the fridge is off, and unplugged before sticking fingers anywhere near a fan - plastic or not, i have seen 4 inch biscuit fan take the tip off an index finger of in a fraction of a second, so don't think for a minute because it's plastic, it won't bite.
  • Do not use any sharp pointed or metal objects to remove the fan or it's plastic cover, use fingers or flat blunt objects that can not puncture the lining of the fridge itself.
  • ( trust me when i say i speak from experience on this )
  • Be extra careful when removing the shroud around the fan, it should simply either click in or there maybe small coverings, covering 3-4 screws around the unit.
  • Remove the fan cover, being again extra careful of the unit itself and check around with a flashlight and perhaps even a magnifying glass.
  • If you can not find any offending objects, it is probably best to replace the fan and shroud and call the repair guy.
