Question about Apple iPod touch

I have an Ipod Classic ( the newest version). It hasn't given me any problems until I let my friend use my Itunes to put msic on his new Ipod shuffle. Worked fine for him but now my computer wont recognize my Ipod Classic. Help?

Try unplugging and plugging it back in, this happens to every ipod user once in a while. Try plugging it in a different USB port. Let me know how it goes.

Why wont my laptop acknowlage my ipod? i downloaded itunes.. it should automaticly accept my ipod should'nt it?????


if i were you i would plug your ipod into a friends computer to see if it is recognized. That way we can rule out any ipod hard drive issues. Make sure you have the newest version of itunes installed on your computer. Are you running a version of windows newer than Windows XP?

What I would do is try downloading the newest version of Itunes. That should work or you can try and restoring it. If you want to try that route here is how t do it:

  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPod to the computer using the USB cable.
  3. When the device appears in iTunes, select the "Restore" button. You will have four options from which to choose. Restore uses the same version of iPod software. Restore 2 uses the same iPod software though an update is available. Restore 3 puts the newest version of iPod Shuffle software on your device. And restore 4 installs the latest version of software and updates the device.
  4. Keep the iPod connected throughout the restore process.
  5. Name your iPod after the restore is complete and sync your library with it again if you so choose.

The itunes doesn't recognize my ipod classic


you restored your ipod correct? (just the music is erased) not format ? (ipod is zapped)....ok..lets play with the restore part...plug up ipod to pc....do not open itunes (close it, x it out) ...go to my computer you should see a new drive on it (ipod)....double click ipod and copy the software (from ipod) it should be 4 folders and hidden files too...paste it to a temp folder on the pc....now right click ipod drive and format it (yes this will erase everything on it)...once format is completed reinstall the software from the temp folder back to ipod......now this is finish....update itunes to the newest version (even if u have it already overwrite it)....you now have a brand new ipod...........

in the beginning i ask if you restored or formatted (if you had formatted, you would not find nor see any software)......you would be better off asking a friend/family if they have the same ipod can you copy just the software (you would copy their software to a temp file, then on to yours same as above) .........i hope this works out for u.....feel free to rate the help

Dear customer,              We recommend you to following the below given instructions to install ipod on your computer. 
  1. Visit the Apple Web site to download the latest version of iTunesmag-glass_10x10.gif . All iPods use iTunes as part of their software package.
  2. Determine what generation iPodmag-glass_10x10.gif you have. Depending on how new the iPod you are using is, it will be a slightly different procedure for installing the software.
  3. Plug in your generation five iPod directly to your PC. The newest generations of iPods do not require additional software other than iTunes and do not come with a CD.
  4. Follow the instructions of the “Setup Assistant” provided by Windowsmag-glass_10x10.gif OS. It should pop up when you plug in your iPod using its USB cable.
  5. Use a software installation CD which is included with older iPods. Insert the CD into the disc drive and installation will begin.

120GB classic ipod is corrupt


You will want to attempt to force the iPod into disc mode then restore using iTunes. With the iPod in disc mode, iTunes should show the iPod. You will have to restore the iPod to resolve the issue of corruption though. Please let me know if this does not resolve your issue. :)
Putting ipod into disc mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363 Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect" If you are having difficulty putting the iPod model into disk mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center.
If you are still unable to put your iPod with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.

How to restore iPod (ARTICLE NUMBER HT1339)
Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.

After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel and you will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.

Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download the latest iPod Software.

The 4 possible restore options are: Restore Option

Restore Instruction 1: Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).


Restore Instruction 2: Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).

During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage.

Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.

After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

I'm making an assumption that iTunes was working before on the other computer, and now that you have switched computers, the Nano is not being recognized by iTunes?

Basicly if you do a restore everything is reset
