### What if I replaced a long heating element with a short one on my water heater?

Won't matter much... except long elements generally burn out less often than short ones since heat is spread across larger surface area .. assuming both elements are same wattage.
Lower wattage element will heat water less quickly by a few gallons per hour.

### Can i use a 4500 watt on a 208 volt system

Yes
Voltage and wattage printed is on end of each element
If element shows 240V 4500 watt, then element Wattage at 208V is reduced to 3375 watts and will heat 16+ gallons per hour
If element is rated 208 and 4500w, then element will operate at 4500 watt and heat 20 gallons per hour

### I have a rheem glas standard 30 gallon model # 81sv-30d water heater with upper and lower watages 3500. how do i know what size heating element i need?

Look on label on side of tank.
Wattage of tank will be element wattage. This is true if tank has one or two elements since both elements are never ON at same time.
Simply go to hardware store and buy 3500W element.
Take phone photo to store if needed for identification.

### OUR WATER HEATER IS BLOWING FUSES ..

1) Turn off power before touching water heater that is shorting or wet or was flooded.
2) Circuit breakers & fuses blow because of heat. A short will cause heat. Tighten screws on terminals inside box, listen for crackling sound/burning smell from loose-fitting parts.
3) Easy test for circuit breakers: move water heater wires to another same-size breaker. If same-size does not blow, then problem is breaker.
4) A short between fuse box and water heater could be gnawed electrical wire. Inspect wire.
5) Wires have size markings. 5500 watt water heater needs #10 wire. 4500 watt water heater needs #10 wire but can work with smaller #12 if distance is not long. See label on side of heater for wattage, voltage, etc. Element wattage is water heater wattage even with 2 elements.

6) Short inside water heater can be elements or thermostat. Open covers and inspect parts for burning. Screws should be very tight against copper wire. Sediment could fill bottom of water heater cause lower element to short.

### Is 30a sufficient for a 80 gallon electric hw heater

The wattage of the heating elements will determine the amperage you need. Take the total wattage of all the elements and divide it by the voltage you are using (probably 220). That will give you the amperage. Example: 4400 watts divided by 220 volts equals 20 amps.
