-   Also experienced this myself, just booted up today and saw the little icon in my taskbar, it does nothing when I click on it, if I hover over it, it displays 'Shockwave Updater'. Then my ZoneAlarm has a pop up security alert that PostUpdate.exe is a repeat program trying to access the internet.
I do a few searches on Yahoo and Google using PostUpdate.exe as keyword searches. I found some spyware forums that came up with this advice;
Use an online malware file scanner such as Virus Total http://www.virustotal.com/
or Jotti http://virusscan.jotti.org/
I scanned the file found in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\PostUpdate.exe
I even tried my trusty AVG Anti-virus & AVG Anti-spyware program and all said the file is clean. Also described as a false positive in some cases.
Well I think I may just delete the file as described here
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1038818#post1038818Bring up the Task Manager (ctrl + alt + del) click on the processes tab, locate
PostUpdater and click on End Process.
Then go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\
PostUpdater.exe and delete it.
Frankly, I'm going to delete Shockwave and all it's subfolders, removing all traces in 'Safe Mode' including registry entry(ies) if they exist.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ RunOnce SWHelper
Screw Adobe for inconveniencing us with a surprise "feature", I don't
like anything popping up on my computer especially if it is an
executable file in my Notification Tray area. A very big 'no no' on
Adobe's part.
More info can be had at the following links or doing a search as I suggested:
