Seems to me, the screen has shorted out. To fix this, the camera will have to be disassembled enough to get to the screen and clean the contacts which are many and along two adjacent sides. You can do it on your own if you want to take the risk (and learn about camera electronics). The other two options are to have a technician do it or replace the camera. Replacement may be cheaper than a technician. Do some research before you decide.

i have had this camera for about a year and a half and when i first got the camera i was raving to everyone over the incredible battery life i was getting. i could take hundreds of pictures with a single pair of AA's. now I am lucky to get 10 pictures before the camera shuts off and says "Change the batteries" i have tried rechargeable batteries and right out of the package energizers please tell me if there is somethign i can do.
