Question about Vulcan EF3 Deep Fryer

1 Answer

I have a Vulcan EF3 fryer. My gas company converted it from natural to lp, we have used it a couple months and now it has a problem. If the temperature of the kitchen is cool it will light and come up to temp but if the oil is warm with doesn't light. If it lights and comes to temp the burner shuts down and does not relight when it call for heat again. The pilot flame seems smaller than our other fryer. My local "only" repairman seems to think it is something with the pilot. Any ideas? Thank you, Julie

Thanks for the quick reply. The gas company came to convert it to lp so I'm guessing they have too small of a hole now. They did not take the fryer to their shop as they did a char broiler so how would they convert it? Doesn't something flip around to switch from natural to lp or does the pilot simply adjust?

Cantril is a small town of 221 people, finding a repairman that knows what's going on is impossible but if I point him in the right direction I know he can handle it for me.

    I appreciate your help.

    Julie

The gas valve has a thermostatic probe, the valve will not open and function correctly unless the pilot light is adjusted properly, the temp probe is heated by flame of the pilot light, if the pilot is weak or improperly adjusted then the gas valve probe will not get hot enough and the gas flow is cut off, this is a safety feature to make sure gas doesn't flow without a pilot lighted, have the pilot adjusted or the orifice cleaned (the metered hole that the gas flows through), I think the weak pilot flame is the problem here.

Need to know where to light pilot

Normally, it's under the fryer, inside the door...The issue almost always is you have to press the button down long enough for the sensor to tell the fryer to light....There are 3 or 4 burners in the bottom of the frypot on top and under the fryer is the pilot to light these all up...Look for the gas valve, turn the gas valve to pilot, and press and hold it down, put flame to pilot and release button when flame is self standing... Then turn to on position. If you have other issues, call the Vulcan company themselves, and they will help you further.... Susan Restaurant Equipment Outlet, Cinc, Oh www.restaurantequipmentinc.com
