Question about Dell W3201C 32 in. LCD Television
The popping sound started on Friday night June 12 09 for 2 days this sound keep coming out of the speakers. So today June 14 09 we went to Best Buy and purchased wires for the speakers. That did not work we tried other speakers and they didn't work and know the TV doesn't have any sound at all. Like the previous person I paid to much money for this TV - for the sound board to go out.
Yesterday I went to the pawn shop and purchased a Sony receiver they just got it in a couple a days (pawn shop) ago. The receiver is in great shape still had the stickers on them for less than 100.00. We hooked the speaker and the cords black/yellow/red to the in/out in back of the TV and the receiver. Wow! Great surround sound and the TV works like new. Please do not go and buy a sound board you will be wasting your money and the same thing will happen again and again. Dell sucks!

The audio amplifier board has a number of components covered with a tough brown waxy, rubbery potting compound. Very careful and tedious removal of this compound exposed many corroded component solder joints. The problem created by this potting technique is apparently a common problem with this sound board. In my case cleaning the corrosion of the circuit board proved to correct the sound failure problem. (Not for the faint of heart).

After reading the other ideas, I connected the TV to my Sony receiver that lives a few shelves from the TV. Since the receiver has an A and B speaker selector I can route the sound to the TV's speakers or throughout the house. After connecting the TV to the receiver there is zero sound distortion. Fixed.

Problem is very likely the Philips TDA8925ST Audio amplifier I.C. on the audio board. Rich-Tech in Ricmond B.C. claims stock of this part for less than $4.00
