Kenmore microwave model 721 loose door

Loose bottom hinge - slide the microwave to the edge of the counter, and look at the bottom hinge - you may have to remove something to see clearly. Its likely you are missing a screw or the screws have worked themselves loose.

Have to slam door to get oven to operate

Try a) Lubricate the latches. I sprayed wd-40, you probably can use vegetable oil. Both sides, latch and receptor. Just doing this may fix your problem. (I have to admit I did part b first before trying this so I am not sure, but after doing this, it made my part b fix work even better)

b) Failing this, I found opening it up (t-20 torx screw driver) and tying a wire in the top hole, through the bottom latch body and fastening to a bottom hole of the microwave frame to force the mechanism to stay in place. You want to pull it towards the oven cavity. This will keep it from bending out of alignment. I found that it is only the bottom latch that has to catch for the microwave to sense the door is closed.

Handle came loose on bottom there is a screw that I can see, so hoping i can screw it back together. Don't know how to get behind door panel.

The door seal covers the screws. It snaps into place and usually can be removed carefully without damage. If you break the snaps there is nothing to hold it in place. Disclamer; federal law requires a leakage test after making a door repair.

I got the screws off for the door handle on the ACO1860AS Microwave but the handle will still not come off. Is there another mechanisme or hidden screw that needs to come out?

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

From the service manual:

Door Disassembly

1. Disconnect power to oven and remove oven door,
(see "Door Removal" procedure).

2. Pry away choke cover, by placing a tool in the upper
right corner of the door and gently prying outward on
the choke cover. Continue to work around the door
casing until choke cover is completely loose.

3. Slide latch assembly upward and to the left to
release plastic tabs from door frame. Once latch
assembly is loose the spring may be disconnected
from the door frame.

4. Remove screws securing door handle and door
frame to door panel.

5. Remove door frame by releasing tabs around entire
door panel.

Remove door handle by placing a hand on door panel
next to the top of the door handle. Twist door panel
towards the inside of door and pulling on the top
portion of the door handle in a quick jerking motion.

NOTE: When replacing door handle, the bottom portion
of the door handle must be inserted first.

You can find handy exploded views and order parts by model number here.

Broken door handle

The in side door panel ( at total pain) must come off

If the damage to the bottom is not too bad.
On mine I took the cover for the handle loose from the bottom ( it pops off, but be careful).
and put screws at the bottom

My frigidaire microwave door is sagging and is about to fall off

EASY get a machine screw, nut with washer. I believe I used a 1/8" machine screw.....(find something small to fit in the hole on the bottom hinge.

First step, take 3 screws off bottom to expose hinge area. Have someone hold it or support it so wires to the light do not pull out,.

Pop the machine screw through the front and then with your fingers get the washer an nut and tighten down.
If you want the professsional look. Paint the machine screw white first with a enamel white paint.

Siwtch door stuck open,

there is a switch on the front usually inside the back bottom latch it pushes on a switch in the back of it as you close the door.
you have to remove the top cover to get to it.
you can insert a plastic knife to test it. you should hear a click and light should turn off.
it may be jammed or open inside the switch .or wire is off. etc..

Replace fuse

The fuse is generally located on the bottom of the chassis of the microwave. You have to remove the outer cover on a counter top model - or the front panel assembly on an over-the-range model. There are several reasons why it may blow. If the fuse is loose in the holder, the fuse and the holder should both be replaced. If - with the microwave disconnected from the wall - you can easily turn the fuse with your fingers while it's in the holder, then it's too loose. What happens is the loose connection generates too much heat, causing it to melt internally. If so, you'll usually see a ball of solder at a point where the cap meets the body of the fuse. If the fuse blows as soon as you plug the oven in the wall, or when you open the door, the problem is likely with the door switches. You can find my files "doorsw.txt" and "safety'txt" via Google. They give you the safety warnings and cover the diagnosis and replacement of the door switches. If the fuse blows as soon as you hit START, then it's likely that you have a shorted high-voltage capacitor. If the fuse blows a few seconds after you hit START, then it's likely that you have an overheating / shorting high-voltage transformer. If you still have a problem, please wirte back with more detail. Be safe!

Loose microwave door

My over the range microwave had a loose door, it sagged when it was open but you could lift it to close. Called repair person he said no it could not be fixed. You could see the bottom hinge was loose and slipping. I loosened 3 screws that holds the bottom on the microwave -you have to do this to change the light bulb also. The bottom hinge on the door was loose there was a hole there, so took a screw and nut to hold the hinge in place..I am a 70+year old woman-if I can you can.
