There are a large number of different A/C units so without knowing a brand/model it is impossible to give exact amperage, but for a 2-ton unit it may be around 15-20 amps @ 220 volts. if the compressor is wearing out it could be somewhat higher, up to the compressor's thermal protection point or if a circuit breaker trips. theoretically that could be 30 amps or more.

The compressor in my roof ac in my RV never turns of and I have replaced the thermostat. What else could it be? Could it be the compressor relay or the capacitor? Or something else? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

See if you are getting voltage to the compressor,if so and no amp draw the compressors bad, if you do get an amp draw but wont start try the hard start assist kit.

I HAVE DOMETIC DUO-THERM PENGUIN ROOF AIR CONDITIONING ON RV. THE UNIT WILL RUN WHEN PLUGGED INTO ELECTRICITY BUT WHEN GENERATOR POWERED THE AC UNIT KILLS THE GENERATOR ENGINE. WHAT COULD IT BE?

What size & type generator? On start up the AC unit can draw as much as 17-18 amps in some cases, and if your generator is not designed for a quick draw like that it will die.

Where do i find a compressor for a dometic a/c rooftop unit for rv

If unit has many years on it, you may find it cheaper in the long run to replace entire unit. By the time you pay someone to change it , with it being a closed system, installed valves to re-charge, etc., a new upper unit, is usually the better decision. Sorry. You won't need control box, ceiling assy .,etc., so it shouldn't be too bad. New lower amperage draw units are available as well but work just as good.

Rooftop RV Air Conditioner: replaced capacitor on dometic 59516-531 steal trip...

You need to borrow a clamp on style amp gauge, and check amp draw on black wire in box where hydro wires connect. (PLEASE, be careful, and if not experienced in this type of test, don't try it, due to likelihood of getting a shock. ) If it's the compressor kicking in that's causing the breaker to trip, and capacitor is good, then it's usually a problem with either low incoming (supply) 110-120 AC voltage, which will cause high amperage draw, or compressor on it's way out causing high amp draw. If it's only drawing 15-18 amps, and your tripping a 20 amp breaker, then breaker is getting weak.

If everything works on the roof top unit; all the power is on and the lights dim when the compressor kicks in, so do you think it needs to be rechaged?

Probably not. Does it trip right away or after it runs a while? Check all your wiring connections at the unit including under the compressor terminal cap. Make sure your fan spins free & is lubricated. The condenser on the roof top could be dirty. A capacitor on the compressor could be weak or failing. It is possible there is a refrigerant leak that caused the compressor to run hot and start to draw high current as a result though.
