Blowing flames

I have the exhaust pipe off and when I start it,and let it run it will blow out flames thru the exhaust hole. Also do you adjust the valves on the exhaust stroke or the intake stroke at TDC?

Hello Carleton, Fire out of the exhaust port with no pipe is normal. You want to bring the piston to top dead center on the compression stroke. Both valves should be fully closed.

The exhaust pipe gets red also. I have cleaned the carb With carb dip and spray. I was think it might be getting to much fuel? and think the carb might need to be rebuilt. What do you think?

.004" seems to close. .008" intake and .010" exhaust would be better. Maybe even find the exact clearance specs. I think you should also pull off the flywheel to check the aluminum key to make sure it hasn't partially sheared, causing late ignition timing.

How do I blow a glass pipe?

Blowing a pipe is easy. You start by rotating just the end of the tubing in the flame until the end closes up and there is a small blob of glass on the end of the tube. then while keeping the end in the flame you slowly blow into the open end of the tubing until the bowl is the size that you want. lastly you heat a small spot on the bowl and then blow it through.

Can anyone tell me why my direct vent fireplace flame looks like its in a wind storm. The pilot blows out as a rexult

Looks like too much yellow in the flame. That is normally caused by the mixing control on the gas feed tube being too closed. Trace the tube from the burner .....back toward the gas feed line....until you find the slip ring that controls the amount of oxygen that is mixed with the gas. Open is a small amount and light it. You should see a bit more blue color. If that does not work, continue to vary the adjustment until the flame burns correctly. The pilot should never blow out unless the outside air feed is too large. You can try blocking it a small amount to see if the smaller amount of outside air corrects the problem.

How do I clean my exhaust on my wr200 and will oil go where where

i presume it is a 2 stroke ,i have done it by removing exhaust and getting a blowtorch oxyaceteline and pointing flame into exhaust neck to start burning the carbon out for about 30 seconds and then straight away blowing into the same end of pipe you have heated up with compressed air to feed the burn,MAKE SURE FLAME TORCH IS SWITCHED OFF )then keep compressed air nozzle blowing trough the pipe and you can see how the burn runs along the inside of the pipe as the carbon burns out ,it takes about 4mins to burn all the way along inside of pipe <be warned it is a messy smokey job <if you are not technically skilled id suggest removing your pipe and assking an exhaust shop to assist you to do it

It's easier to replace the entire Pilot Assembly. The Part Number is 78422 and you can order it direct from Mr. Heater. For parts call 800-251-0001. It should run about $30.00.

Hope this helps you. Please let me know.

I have 1999 zx9r that back fires and throw flame out the pipe when i rev it up counld this be my packing in muffler gone or what help please!

you either have a severe missfire or its running too rich if it iworse when riding the bike and you do a rapid gear change to a lower gear and it pops and bangs a lot its air being sucked into the exhaust system from a leak in the exhaust joint or gasket failure check for blows around the exhaust clollectors or splits around the bracket that holds the pipe on to the bike frame

Have an Atwood LP water heater. When I light the pilot light and hold it for 30 seconds or more it stays lit but the burner tube will not light except for at the air/fuel mixture slits at the thermostat...

Yes, a good place to start would be to run a burner brush through entire tube to make sure all spider webs are out, then blow through again. If that doesn't cure it, double check your position of burner tube in chamber. Sometimes if it's moved into chamber too far, it will tend to back-up flame in to tube. I've had some that I re-installed and was sure I put it back exactly where it was before, but had to pull burner tube back approx 1/8"-3/16" to get a proper flame. Make sure it's centered in chamber as well.

If the service center did a tune up ect., and the engine still has no power I would look at the exhaust. Sometimes the inner pipe of a muffler will collapse making it hard for the engine to blow out the burned gases. While the engine is running at about 2000 rpm, put your hand about 4" from the end of one of the exhaust pipes. Now another pipe. Is the same pressure felt on both pipes? If the pressure on all the pipes is unequal that pretty much tells the story. To be sure, if you can disconnect all the exhaust pipes then ride down the street & back and the bike just got the power back then it the exhaust pipe is definitly the problem. Hope this helps.
