It will not connect to xbox live . it keep saying enter the wep key for this network

you need the password for the wireless you are connecting to, unless you provide that password (wep key) you will not be able to connect to that router. make sure you are connecting to your own router and provide the right password (wep key)

My son has just bought a Xbox 360 kinect and he wants to sign up for the online Xbox live and we are unable to get the WEP key in order to connect. We are using the Netgear but have tried 192.168.0.1,...

What you are entering are IP addresses, these are not the WEP encryption key.
The XBox needs the Netgear WEP encryption key, this is in the Netgear wireless settings.
To get this encryption key connect a LAN cable from a computer's LAN port to the Netgear, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
You can now go into the wireless settings - you can view the WEP encryption key

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I need my wpa key so i can my xbox live online. how do i get the password?

Depending on which ISP you are with usually the WEP key is printed on a label on your wireless router or it is supplied on a card that came with your router. Have a look and see if you can find it, then enter it into the WEP/WPA key section of your Xbox wireless setup.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

WE ARE TRYING TO GET MY XBOX TO GET LIVE AND IT SAYS THAT WE NEED A WEP KEY WERE CAN WE GET THAT AT

Your WEP key is on your router. When you setup wireless security in your router, you enter a key phrase aka WEP key. You just need to put that same phrase in the XBOX setup.

Your WEP is the security key on your wireless router. You have to put it in beforre you can not connect to the router. If you do not know what it is let me know your routers make and model so I can give you the proper instructions.

What is a wep key, and where will i find it, for setting up xbox 360 thanks

WEP stands for Wireless Encryption Protocol and it is the wireless key for your router.
The length of a WEP key depends on the type of WEP security (called "encryption") utilized:
  • 40- / 64-bit WEP: 10 digit key
  • 104- / 128-bit WEP: 26 digit key
  • 256-bit WEP: 58 digit key
You will need to find the WEP key in your router's administration page and then enter it on your xbox under the system settings then network settings.

My wireless has a WPA key and Abox is asking

  1. Plug in the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter to one of the USB ports on the back of your Xbox 360.
  2. Turn on your Xbox 360 and navigate to "My Xbox" and then "System Settings."
  3. Go to "Network Settings" and then "Configure Network."
  4. Select the appropriate settings for the wireless network you will be connecting to on the "Basic Settings" tab.
  5. Enter the name of the SSID of the wireless network you will be connecting to. If the SSID is not broadcast, select "Specify Unlisted Network" and enter in the SSID of the network manually.
  6. Enter in the wireless security key (WEP or WPA) so that your Xbox 360 can access the network.
  7. Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" back on the "Network Settings" screen to verify that your Xbox 360 is now connected to the wireless network and ready for use.
Should work for either WEP or WPA

How to remember my wep

yes, there is a way. just follow the steps below.

- open a web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar. it'll prompt you for a username and password, just leave the username blank and the default password is "admin"
- it'll prompt you with a linksys screen, go to the "wireless" tab near the "setup" tab. then look for "wireless security" subtab just under the "wireless" tab. it'll give you now your wep keys. copy key 1 and enter it on your xbox live

hope this'll help you and just ask me if you'll have other concern

ciao!
