Question about Radio Shack Pro-96 Scanner

1 Answer

Pro96 PROBLEM I monitor Henrico Police in Virginia and everything was running smooth, but now i turn it on and my scanner picks up NOTHING, except State Police with high static/squelch. Yet when I go to MAN then PGM, voices will be talking on some freq.'s. I have looked into my trucked talkgroup channels and all i want to hear are unlocked. I have a new 800 MHz antenna from radioshack that has been working fine and i even exchanged it with my old/standard one, and still it doesnt work...HELP!!!!

You didn't mention what type trunking system "disappeared" from the scanner. If it's an EDACS system it's possible that the police activated a ProVoice feature that in effect causes your scanner to ignore programmed groups and users in the system. You can tune the freqs manually, but you cannot scan them, and the scanner will not follow a conversation as it skips through the system freqs. You might want to check with www.RadioReference.com to see if the system is in fact and EDACS ProVoice. It it is, NO scanner can follow it.

Police scanner frequencies marion va

RadioReference Dot Com has everyting you need. Go to their database, click on Virginia, then click on your county. Keep in mind that MANY police and fire units have switched to digital or to analog trunking, and a special scanner is required. Good luck.

What is ment be reflashing a police scanner

  • When police, public safety, etc re-band then some scanners may not pick up the frequencies and you need to update the firmware (when available) to keep your scanners ability to monitor certain frequencies, pairs of frequencies, splinter channels etc.

  • Hope this helps.

Henrico County Virginia are operating on Digital Frequencies (854 to 868MHz) as detailed at the link below so as yours is only an Analogue Scanner (25 to 512MHz) you can't listen to their Frequencies.

I have a handheld Uniden scanner that is several years old. BC80XLT. My police channels went digital, but emt, fire, etc stayed the same . Do I have to buy a new scanner to get my police or can I get...

If your locals went digital they are probably using trunked systems as well. Sorry, but there is no way to convert or modify your scanner to let you monitor the new systems. You'll need to pick up a trunking/digital scanner such as the Uniden BCD996XT. Programming the trunked systems is a real task, so I recommend that you purchase the Butel ARC XT PRO software and a subscription to RadioReference.com. The combination will let you research the systems in your area, decide which ones you want to monitor, and download them straight to your scanner.

When in the MO mode, I hear nothing. In the FM mode, I hear everything. I want just to listen to local FD. I have their codes loaded in. Just doesn't seem to scan the channels when in MO. What am I doing...

MO is for monitoring MOtorola trunking systems and will only work if you have programmed a system into your scanner. Most fire departments are using conventional, (FM) transmissions, not trunked systems - mainly so that volunteers and neighboring departments can follow the action and respond if needed. Motorola k7gt9500 police channel in manassas virginia?

Your Motorola radios operate in the FRS/GMRS band, which is at 462 MHz. Police, fire, EMS services, etc. operate in the 150 or 800 MHz bands. Your radios cannot receive public service transmissions, and they cannot be modified to do so. Monitoring public service transmissions will require a scanner.
