Try a different brand new needle. Make sure it is facing the correct direction when installed. If it is still hitting, you need to take the machine for service.
Ugh - computers! If you have access to another computer, try the download to see if it works. I kept my old desk top with xp for such occasions.
It could be you need to download a new driver for the program.
I would go to the Singer Company site where they have a Futura section with tutorials and FAQ. If a solution cannot be found, I would give customer service the entire story and ask for help.
Make sure you have the latest software version. Current version you may check in About dialog under Help submenu and in the same submenu you wil find a function Live Update.
Also make sure you switch on the sewing machine either with the large hoop connected or without hoop. If sewing machine was switched on with the small hoop attached, it will provide this error message about wrong hoop.
I have been having the same thing happen. I just discovered the bobbin winder was in the wind position. I moved it and I am in business again! Hope it works for you!
I have the same machine 1 year old ,check thet the hoop is on pins correctly and tight and that the large hoop is selected on the program.as these machins are verry sensetive.Hope this helps.

A client of mine had this same problem. The driver seemed to be installed correctly in device manager (start, run, type "devmgmt.msc") press enter. I tried many things to get it to work. Then I downloaded the Windows Vista setup files on the brother site. That fixed the problem. I will post full step by step instructions @ http://rivertownnetworking.com
Try downloading the updates for your software from Janome Global, downloads, software. Version 1 needs patches to make it compatible with XP. The most current Version for the 10000 software is 2.21, and the upgraded program is Digitiser pro/MB , a much more stable and far easier version to work with. The upgrade has to be purchased via a dealer or direct from Janome.
