Lift out front electrode unit and run you finger up and down the back side of each electrode. If there is no dust present, did you clean the front ionizing wire on the front grille?

If you remove both front and reare grill, there is also an ionizing behind the 2 conductive rubber strips. Easiest way to reach them is from the back side of the unit. with tube removed. Run finger up and down each one. If you never cleaned those wires, get an emery board for fingernails, and gently run the wire between a finger and the board with gentle pressure only- this will help clean any silica residue from silicone based air fresheners. Dust out the base of the unit, and reassemble. this should take care of the "clean" message.

Possibly the 4" white plate with the screen center is not inserted correctly, or it may need to be cleaned or replaced. Open the back of the machine and remove the plate. Clean it with a solution of equal parts ammonia/warm water. Scrub gently with a toothbrush or soft veggie brush, rinse well, blow-dry or air-dry. DO NOT use any kind of drying cloth or paper, and avoid touching the screen portion with fingers.
When the plate is dry, inspect it for any burned sections, broken wires, cracks, or other imperfections. If anything appears broken, the plate must be replaced. (Call Vollara, the new name for EcoQuest at 1-800-989-2299 to order. Use #16618 if you need a referral number.)
When you reinsert the plate, make sure the plate is inserted with both the top and bottom of the plate in the "tracks." Also make sure that the two metal contact fingers are pressing firmly on the screen portion of the plate. Look carefully to see if you can detect any loose wires, connections, or corroded components that may be shorting out or broken.
When you power on the machine, if the contact points are receiving power and if the plate is clean and unbroken, you should be able to smell the purifier both on "sanitize" and with the "purifier on" settings. Remember, the air passes in a V from the front of the machine, so if you're standing close, front and center, you may not smell the purifier. High humidity also masks the ozone smell. Also, if the UV/cell is on, you're still getting powerful purification.
Hope this helps.

If none of the hi voltage grid wires have broken then check to be sure grid wires are truly cleaned.
If not cleaned in a while like every 2 weeks they will have carbon build on them. And from my experiences with cleaning them is the build looks similar to the color of the wire. Try some qtips dipped in alcohol or cotton balls. The build comes off like flaking metal. Also be very tender with these wires they break fairly easy. When done cleaning turn upside down and back so beads can scrape up and down on wires. Also you do know once clean the parts especially the big collection bars they need to dry for at leased 24 hours before ever powering unit back on. Hope this helps.

My ecoquest breeze is squeaking

Singer sewing machine oil works great. Remove the front grill and carefully remove the fan by sliding it off the shaft. Where the shaft meets th4e motor, place three or four drops of oil. Spin the shaft and wipe off the excess. Place the fan back on the shaft, flush with the end of the shaft. In the rear, remove the lint screen and the ozone plates. Put oil on one end of a Q-tip over a trash can until it drips off. On the rear of the fan motor, push the Q tip against the shaft so that oil oozes out. Again, spin the fan. Repeat this process every time you clean your Breeze and it should never squeak again.

I was just wondering if the fragrances contain oil in them?

You simply remove the spindle and wash it out, and the spin wheel too if ot gets a build up. I use an antiseptic sort of smelling scent in mine and it helps capture dust. That is part of the build uop on the spindle. Simply turn it on the spin wheel and remove it and then wash it under hot water and let the hot water course through the spindle to clean it out.

Clean fan area

NOTE:It is easier to remove the motor when the upper housing is still sitting on top of the lower housing unit.
  1. Turn the power off by unplugging the unit.
  2. Next to the speed directions buttons there are thumb tabs. Press the thumb tabs so that they pop up and unlock the upper housing flaps. a tumb tab on
  3. The four flaps should then drop down like the peddles of a flower.
  4. Grab the center of the motor and lift straight up, be careful when pulling the power chord.
  5. The motor, fan and gear assembly should not be seperated from the rest of the unit.
This will let you clean with vinegar and water.

Great product. Germany design at its best

Won't turn on

Just wanted to make sure you inserted the carbon filter on the back before turning it on. It will not turn on without the filter in place. Also, you have to make sure the on/off switch on the back is turned on. Hope that might help.

Indicator red light

i had a similar problem with my pro. the wires would get a heavy white build up that would not come off with the wire cleaner so i had to take the unit apart and clean the wires by hand and that worked for me. you may be able to reach them if you put a Q-tip in the end of a straw.

How to remove the fan blade ?

080204 FixUp EQ air blog remarks

To remove fan blade you need to obtain a thin strong probe, such as a Scratch Awl for wood, that will fit without binding, into the cruciform spaces around the plastic collar. Gently insert into space of plastic collar and lever against the spring metal retaining clamp; getting started may require a bit of force, so be careful to adjust and gauge your efforts. The process is to move clamp in small increments, one side then the other, up the collar until clamp is free to remove.

The collar will still be tight, so if you can form your hands into a gear puller form with your finger tips between the fan blades under to the solid portion of the fan ring, pushing thumbs against the Spindle and lifting in as quick a jerk as you can manage to get it moving. Once moving it should be removed easily enough.

The electric motors have two bearing surfaces, one front one back. Both need to be addressed.

I like Breakfree or similar that acts like minor solvent / major lubricator with good thermal properties. The solvent aspect helps clean out unwanted particles and/or old dried lube. The new lubrication is heavy enough to hold up for at least a year; so yearly checking should be scheduled.

On other brands with heavier motors, I've tried greases when I've stripped down the motors even further. So far I've discovered a heavier lube can be hard on start up and need more time at slower speeds until unit warms up.

Something like WD40 is good for penetration and flushing, but IMO too light for sustained duty. There is a lot of spinning and heat over a year's time.

I just torn down a couple of F1's. They've been doing well for a couple of years. But with all air filters/ purifiers, they REQUIRE periodic maintenance. [Had my biggest laugh reading complaints about Oreck air filters; people NEVER cleaned them and complained when they failed.]
Yes, all these small electrical motors will eventually need lubrication, I recommend before 2 years, as one of mine had a frozen (lack of lube) motor in that time.

If you get into the back to try to get at the rear bearing, you may find that you might be considering a more thorough cleaning (I noticed a bit of corrosion). If you do and if that means taking more stuff apart to clean, be well advised of the time involved and the number of wires needing displacement, especially the electronic wire connectors at the front to the circuit board.
So, get a digital camera and take clear pictures (and check them!) Before and During take apart as well as a couple of paper notes about wire runs and placement. I have even used paint pens to letter/number info to the unit.

Unit stopped smelling

Whenever you clean or replace the plate, you must also clean the contacts that touch the plate, and all supports for the contacts. Clean them with 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol and Q tips. You should also clean the ionization point with a Q tip and alcohol, remove and clean the fan and oil the fan motor front and rear with a drop or two of sewing machine oil. Replace the fan so that it is flush with the end of the shaft. Make sure that the contacts are firmly against the ozone plate when you replace it. They sometimes barely make contact and then don't work well. You can bend them enough to make them fit firmly.
