Hi Donna, it's Jack at Dyson.

As with any vacuum cleaner, it's normal for your Dyson vacuum to generate harmless static in use. You may find this causes small, airborne dust particles to cling to the outer casing of the machine, including the outside of the cleaner bin. This can be easily removed using a soft, dry cloth.

It sounds as if your DC14 is working as intended, but if you'd like any further advice please call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

SOURCE: My dyson dc14 not sucking only from the hose

Hi- I have the same problem: suction fine, but the brushbar was not spinning. I went 1st to the Dyson site and went thru their troubleshooting guide and I'd done all those things, so I called Dyson (1-866-MY DYSON in the USA) and they walked me thru a very simple solution.

What worked was to "rest" the bare floor/carpet adjustment, and it's very easy! You do this by clicking the carpet to bare floor adjustment back and forth at least 5 times. Make sure when you end it's on carpet. Then tilt it back all the way from the upright position so it's flat on the floor and turn it onto it's left side. The carpet indicator should be below the word carpet. THAT WAS IT! As soon as I turned it on again, the brush bar is spinning great! I wish I could tell you right now how well it picks up, but unfortunately I took out the filter and rinsed it, so I have to wait until tomorrow to **** anything up. However, I'm sure it will work now that the brush bar is moving. Like I said, the suction was fine.

Just as an FYI--If you call, they will have you try other things to rule out other problems 1st. I had already done all the things suggested in their troubleshooting guide on their site and the only additional thing they asked me to try was to turn it on and tilt it back as though you are going to vacuum and make sure the suction from the top tube had stopped, as it normally does, and mine did.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: my vacuum won't turn on

Hi, Darran from Dyson here. It is possible that the thermal cutout has activated as your machine may have become too warm during use. If you leave it for an hour or two and see if it switches back on then we would recommend checking your filter and checking your machine for a blockage. If you need any further advice, call us on 0800 298 0298 if in the UK or 1-800-MYDYSON if in the US to speak to one of our customer service advisors. Thanks.

The exterior canister, wheels and casing are covered in dust after every use. After 2 months all filters look brand new.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's normal for your Dyson vacuum to generate harmless static in use, especially when the machine is new. This is due to fast-moving dust and debris passing through the vacuum's ducts. It can also be affected by humidity, and by the synthetic content of the carpeting you're using the vacuum on. The static charge can cause airborne dust particles to cling to the vacuum's outer casing. Our machines include airtight seals, which mean it's extremely unlikely these particles would have come from inside the machine.

Briefly wiping the machine with a damp or anti-static cloth after use should help to dissipate any static charge.

DC65 uses Dyson cyclone technology to capture even microscopic dust and allergens inside the clear bin, keeping dust away from the two washable filters. The fact that the filters are still clean after several months' use simply shows the cyclone technology is doing its job effectively, and does not suggest a fault with your machine.

To reassure you, we'd appreciate the chance to take some further details, and to discuss your concerns. Please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 1800 239 766 (AU) to talk with our experts directly.

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Seems my dyson dc14 redbin emptying button is broken is that part replaceable?

That part is not sold separately. You have to buy the whole dust bin assembly. You should go to your local vac shop and see if they have a good used one. At my store we have piles of old Dysons that we sell parts off of.

Switching on and off no suction

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC14 is engineered to shut off if it starts to overheat. This could be due to a blockage, and the filter may also need a wash.

In normal use we recommend washing DC14's pre-filter at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

To check for any blockages, follow each of the steps shown in our online support guide:

If you'd like some further help from our experts after giving these steps a try, please call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU) so we can provide assistance.

Dyson upright cylinder stuck wont release to empty unit

I have had this happen to me (DC14 Animal). This was my experience:

If you have recently had the motor filter (the "permanent" one under the dust container, right on top of the motor) out and have replaced it, it is important to make sure that the filter cover is down properly, otherwise the canister will not release.

I got the dust container off by pushing it downwards, quite hard before pressing the release button. You really will have to push straight down on it quite hard. Then investigate why the dust container is so high that it will not release.

Suction weak, vacuum seal spring is releases

I would recommend checking the dyson vacuum brushroll first. If there is any hair or thread wrapped around it you are going to want to cut all of that free that way your brushroll can spin freely. I would also recommend checking the filter and washing or replacing that. On the DC 14 that is going to be on the top of the dust canister as well as under the canister if you lift it off of the unit.

    Air escaping from beneath canister.

Yes, this is perfectly normal - all Dyson vacuum cleaners have a gap where the air leaves after it has passed through the vacuum cleaner itself - the air has to come out somewhere and it's always after it made its way past the two filters and the motor :)
