If you see a spark most likely you have enough energy to fire it. If it wont start more than likely your carb needs to be rebuilt. Kits are cheap, just remove carb, clean with carb cleaner, clean all orifices with a piece of brass or steel from a brush. Try not to enlarge the holes, blow out with air if you have it, be careful to put it back together. Clean out tank an replace fuel lines. If you have compression it should start after rebuild. If you want you can just purchase a new carb an make it easy on yourself. Somewhere between $30-50 to replace. That should do it.

Kohler courage 6.5hp wont start?

Could be a short in the coil for the sparkplug. Check the magneto- pull the plug wire off the spark plug and hold it close to the frame of the while someone tries to start it. Keep all parts of your body clear of the mower- only hold the sparkplug wire. When the motor turns over, verify spark from the wire to the frame. If no spark, you likely have a bad magneto coil. If you have a good spark, try taking the air filter off and use some engine starter fluid (not much) and then try and start again. If it starts and runs for a second with the starter fluid, you probably have a problem with your fuel not getting in, which leads to troubleshooting the carb and intake.

I have a 67 triumph 650 bonniville tr120 custom chopper kick start only, it wont start. i put my hands on a spark plug wire and try to kick start and it wont shock me. what could it be?

just because you put your hand on the wire doesn't mean its not getting spark, pull the plug wire off the plug,, insert a screw driver in the end of the plug wire (you'll need help with this,,) have a friend hold the screwdriver close to a bolt on the motor,, crank it over and see if you see spark , It should arc from the screwdriver to the bolt, ( it has to be very close to the bolt but not touching, if you see spark,, pull the plug,, attach the wire back on the sparkplug,, and repeat the same thing, Only place the tab of the plug next to the bolt,, spark = you have spark,, if not ,, replace the plug

How do i check to see if im getting any spark

Pull one of your spark plug wires off and put a sparkplug in it. Touch it against the motor or frame(somewhere grounded) And crank it over. Don't hold onto the plug! It will shock you if it is getting fire!

remove a sparkplug wire from the sparkplug or from a coil and place near a ground have someone crank the engine and it sound spark, you must place the open wire near a metal ground. if you remopve from coil just unplug it and leave the wire near the coil connection.

It will turn over but it wont start ? how can I test to see if I'am getting fire from the coil 1987 Nissanpickup 4 wheel drive

Take out a sparkplug, put it back into the spark plug wire. Hold the plug against a metal part of the engine and crank the vehicle over. You should see it sparking at the tip of the electrode. You can also buy a pen like device that you can hold against a spark plug wire and it has a little window in the pen. If it detects spark there will be an orange flash in the window indicating you're getting spark. You can find one of these in most automotive tool stores.

Remove both sparkplugs from engine. Plug them back in the sparkplug cables and let them rest on the engine.
Make sure your battery is well charged.
Check for sparks while kick-starting...
Interchange the sparkplugs in the cables:
-Same plug give sparks: replace the spark plugs.
-Same side of engine sparks: interchange the low-voltage connector at the ignition coils.
Give it a try:
Same engine side sparks: Replace the defective ignition coil.
Other side of the engine sparks: Check the circuit harness for loose connectors, and/or Clean-replace the breaker points ( left side of the engine carter ).

No fire to sparkplug

you may not be getting electricity from the battery. you can check this but it is kind of dangerous. you stick a metal object in the spark plug cap and hold onto the other end. crank it over just a little bit and if you get a small shock then it works. you may just need a new spark plug.
