Question about Televison & Video

4 Answers

I have a Samsung DLP HLN5065W. Lamp will not fire and after three tries, I get the three blinking LEDs. I have replaced the lamp and the color wheel. However, the lamp still will not come ON. I am now trying to determine if the DMD is bad or the ballast. What is the order of operation? As I understand, it goes like this: a)the DMD turns ON color wheel. b)If color wheel starts, then the DMD fires the ballast to then fire the lamp. If wheel does not start up, DMD will not fire the ballast. Is the above steps correct? With a new color wheel and lamp and the lamp still does not turn ON, can I assume that the DMD is the next likely problem or maybe a power supply issue? I have re-checked all my connections. All fans are running. The best I can determine, the color wheel has NOT moved. Each time I look at it, the wheel is still in the same position as before. I have cycled the TV set several times with no luck. NOTE: Out of all the times (10 to 15) of cycling the TV, ONE TIME only did the lamp come on, but, it has not done so any other time. Thank you!

Just some added notes. TV is about 5 1/2 years old and this is the first time to replace lamp and color wheel. In my first comments I stated that the lamp did fire once AFTER replacing this items. Note that when I first started having these problems and BEFORE I REPLACED THESE PARTS, I got the lamp to fire one other time after cycling the TV several times.

I still have the question about the color wheel that has not been answered (see original comments).

I had stated that I replaced the color wheel and lamp. However, the lamp still does not fire. The color wheel is NOT turning. It has not moved out of its current position for some time (while cycling power to the TV). I was told by a technition at one parts store that the lamp will NOT turn ON if the DMD does not detect the color wheel rotation first. Is this correct? Or, does it need to detect the ballast first in some way? Since the likelyhood that the new color wheel is not bad, is the DMD the next likely problem????

Check also the connection of ventillation fan,for loose ,crack or cold solder joint this is the common problem of ventillation fan,you better reworks or resolder the solder joint,so it works again. Also can affect well...they look like little computer fans. Can't miss'em! They need cleaning too!
Take the back off and somewhere near where the cover seats, there's a cover switch that you can tape shut so you can power it up while watching inside. Don't look directly at the lamp. It's brighter than the sun. One fan blows on the lamp and the other on the DMD controler.

Hope it may help you; Regards: VOTIT

Hi,
Let me know does Timer, Lamp and Abnormal Temperature LED (all 3) blinking simultaneously?
Do you have service manual copy of HLN5065WX TV?
If above 3 LEDs blinking simultaneously then you need to check series of sections, voltage supplies, cables and connectors in TV. i can provide you technical info based on your feedback.
Thanks.

below is an image of service manual front page.

You need to have service manual copy to go through series of test as said in trouble shooting section there.

I have a HLN507W1 and had the same three blinking lights problem for the second time just a week ago. I've had the set since March and the bulb was replaced at the 250 hour mark. It was mentioned somewhere on a forum that Samsung had redesigned the ballast/bulb assembly. Sure enough, when the Samsung service guy came last week, he disassembled the entire rear of the set and replaced the entire DLP engine. It provides a more intense "kick" to the bulb to get it started, especially as it ages. Only time will tell. The bulb definitely starts up faster than it ever did before.

No,the tv colors wheel it is also dead or lose connections somewhere, because there no movement at all and all the LEDS indication lights are flashing and not giving power voltage to the tv colors wheel part at all.

I own a Samsung HL-R5067W 50'' DLP. Set is about 3 years old. Recently I heard a loud pop while viewing, picture distorted, but never went blank. I turned set off. When turned on again a loud whining noise...

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.

Samsung Dlp HL-R7178w not turning On.

If all 3 leds blink, it can be the lamp, ballast (lamp driver), color wheel, or dmd board (all are engine parts = engine failur). its usually the lamp, but you can listen to troubleshoot. when it turns on, you will hear the fans come up (humm..airflow noise), then you will hear the colorwheel (high pitched squeel.. it will come up to speed) and then the ballast will fire up the lamp.. if the lamp doesn't fire, you will hear the spark gap fire (a 1 second buzz noise indicating bad lamp).. the gap will fire 3 times, they tv will then retry again and again until it shuts off and kicks out the error. this power up path will help you listen to find your problem. i can assist further.

Samsung DLP HLM-617W/XAA

with lamp out (door closed) the ballast should "strike" or give an arc sound, trying to fire the lamp. If it does not do that maybe the color wheel is not spinning up - has to do that first.........then the set will try to fire the lamp

STANDBY LIGHT TURN ON

when turning on the set will go three startup cycles about 2-3 min. then all three leds will blink/ possible causes /lamp/ballast/dmd board check or purchase the dmd board last (costs) also listen for arcing from the ballest at startup and fan noise if you can and color wheel noise also.if you hear the ballast arcing and trying to fire the lamp look at the lamp.

Samsung hln5065 picture issue

If all 3 lights are blinking on Samsung DLP it means your lamp is burnt out or has issues. The manual says replace the lamp when all 3 lights are blinking. If you can hear the arc from the ballast the lamp should light if the lamp is operational.A new lamp should solve your problem.

Samsung dlp

HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?
