Have you opened the case?

Inside the actual cd drive unit there should be a couple of small rubberband like belts. You can try replacing them.

It may help.

If that doesn't work ,it may be time for a replacement.

I have a tendancy to hang on to old audio equipment long after it should have been replaced. It's just hard to let them go!

Good luck with it!

SOURCE: Getting occasional popping sound through

Describe your system in greater detail. Does the preamp have a mechanical selector for the tuner/phono/CD or does it have a digital selector that you can operate with a remote? The problem might just be a dirty selector switch that need to be sprayed with Deoxit contact cleaner. It could also be bad cables so try swapping cables with the tuner.

SOURCE: Technics HD560 Losing Sound

Hello sir, there are several things you should check for, first the impedance of the amp and speakers, do they match 8ohms to 8ohms, two the amplifiers heat sink is it sufficient? or the amp. may need an extra cooling fan. third the main amplifier is the culprit. check each one and let me know if there is progress. thanks

I would first look for poor solder connections. It is possible that with the moving of the unit, a marginal connection finally broke. This is not unusual for a unit that is 20 years old. Check with a local repair shop for the labor costs, but this unit is definately worth a $100-$150 investment. If you;d like, post your location here and we'll try to provide you with some referrals.

I have a remote which doesn't work anymore. (20 year old sony LBT-V502 hifi installation and it's standard RM-S530 remote.) What can I do? is it possible to buy a new one?

That is really old. Once you have tried fresh batteries there is not much more to do.

Amazingly there is one for auction on eBay. Good luck. Personally though, I would not buy it used at that price, I'd get a nice new hifi, maybe DAB radio,

The sony lbt-xb20 is not a console, its a compact hifi stereo system ive cleaned the laser but still comes up no disc its a 5 cd changer

You should examine the carriage that mounts the laser/lens, make certain it can move. You should also try cleaning it with Servisol video 40 or lens cleaning fluid if you have not done this allready. Looking a the lens with a magnifying glass might reveal damage to it.
The model number of the lens unit should be on it. It might start with the letters KSS.
If you don need a new one then I have to tell you it won't be cheap.

Technics SL-PD888: Output signal is distorted/overdriven.

I can't find a manual. If it has both analog and digital outputs, compare both for sound quality and report the results. Also try them on different INputs of your electronics to eliminate that as a problem.

Let's examine THAT side, too. What are the components involved and how are they connected?
