Question about Dryers

Whirlpool awz3477 The dryer stops after a few seconds, it only works on the fan setting. In the back the screws have a star shape so a regular screw driver wont work for opening the back..

Sounds like you need a set of the T drivers to remove them. About $10 set at Sears. Also look closely and see if one or more of them have a small pin in center of the star. Many Manufactures use this as a security to keep the average DIY from fixing yourself. I got a set of 32 security bits at Harbor Freight for less than $5. You can use these with a 1/4 inch socket.

Another thing to check is the outlet from the dryer, This will require you to move the dryer out from the wall. Check the coiled hose for kinks or blocked at curves by lint. If you have not cleaned the dryer vent this year. While you have the dryer out from the wall, use an Electric leaf blower to blow out the dryer vent. If it is blocked it will cause the dryer to overheat and shut the heater down allowing the fan to run in an attempt to cool off.

Reach inside and try to turn the drum by hand, it should have some resistance, if it spins free, you may have a broken belt or it fell off. There is a switch on many dryer that is attatched to the motor. If the belt breaks it triggers the switch which disables the motor and heater on the dryer. Also double check that model #, Im not finding anything under that #. thanks Dave www.washermd.com

On my babyliss type S47b, special screwdriver???

The screw may be triangular, or Torx (star pattern), or even 'pin-in-Torx', which all require special tools. They do it to prevent people from opening them up. But you can buy the tools, and for triangular screws I ground an old screwdriver down to match the shape!

Those screws are called 'Tamper Proof' or 'Tamper Resistant'. If you google those you'll find tool sets that will open dang near anything.

I have Whirlpool Duet Dryer that has a noise.

It is common for small items (such as coins) to get stuck inside the dryer drum baffles. You can easily remove them without disassembling the entire dryer. The screws that hold them in place are located on the outside of the dryer drum. In order to access, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the dryer.
2. Remove the top panel of the dryer by removing the three screws located in the back of the dryer holding the panel in place. Once the screws are removed, the top panel slides back, then lifts off.

Each drum baffle has two screws holding it in place. Remove the screws and the baffle will drop into the drum allowing you to easily check inside each one.

Another source of dryer noise is something caught in the blower fan housing. You will need to remove the lower toe panel directly below the dryer door to access. Follow these steps:

1. Open the dryer door and remove the lint screen (the blower fan cover will not come off with the lint screen in place).
2. Locate the screws that hold the toe panel in place along the bottom front edge of the panel. HINT: Propping the front feet of the dryer up can give you better access to reach the screws (a 2x4 works well for this). With the screws removed the toe panel will drop down, then come off.
3. Remove the screws that hold the blower fan cover in place.

Inspect the blower fan housing for any objects that may be vibrating against the fan blades.

If you still need further assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this helpful.

I have a whirlpool dryer that will tumble but makes a noise

sounds as if perhaps something has fallen down the vent hole atop the dryer, it leads directly to the fan so its quite possibel to be making that noise, if you remove teh back of unit yo can locate the "channel " that the filter goes down and by removing a few screws yo can remove the channel to check for obstruction, the 2 screws undethe filter on top need to be removed as well. good luck!

Dryer wont start

you can try removing the lower acess panel(3 screws across the front bottom) then a few more 1/4 screws will release the lint filter housing giviing you acess to the blower fan assy, chances are ther eis a sock or other debris holding the fan from free spinning and t hen locking up trhe motor.

How do I fit a new belt to a Whirlpool AWZ650?

Found this dead easy, take top off and back off. Inside undo the star shaped screws, there are also a few screws that are a different shape when removed, these secure the back to an air inlet. Suggest you take note of where the screws come from, even write a number next to the hole with a marker pen and note which screws and in what order. There is also an earth attached to the drum, this is the only wire I removed. Take this back section off. You should then be able to remove the drum by wiggling it out and turning it sideways in the dryer casing. Then remove the fan bottom left, 4 screws and a clip in the centre, the clip was difficult to remove without spreading it so you may need to squeeze it back into shaped before putting it back on. The tensioners will probably have come out of their locators so put them back into place, this is easy to see when you look at them. This is proabably a good time to vacum any dust out. Spread the tensioners hook the belt over the drive shaft only, not the tensioners, and let them spring back, these will then spread when the belt stretches around the drum. Put the drum back on and pull the belt around it, make sure its lined up with the original belt markings otherwise it will just pull the belt off of the drive shaft. Put all the screws back in attache the earth to the drum and put the back on then the top on. I'm not a technician and haven't done this before, it took about 1 1/2hrs.

I am trying to replace the belt but the drum is still attached to the back (I have taken every visible screw out). Should I try from the front? Is there a way of getting the drum unsecured from the back?

Dryers do not open from the back
the screws removed secure parts to the inside of the case
carefully replace them.
to opent the front of the dryer
unplg dryer

type I: maytag:kenmore stackable:speedqueen:
  • remove 2 screws from bottom of front panel, swing front panel out at bottom and unhook from dop
  • remove door switch wires from switch
  • remove front panel set aside
type II: Kenmore:whirlpool:ge:frigidaire
  • remove lint filter
  • remove 2 screws in lint filter holder
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade
depress spring catches at corners of top cover
  • lift top cover at front
  • remove 1screw each side 1/3 way down
  • remove door switch wires
  • remove front panel set aside
dryer internals are exposed and easily repairable
examine back panel to ensure that nothing is detached from screw removal
assemble in reverse order

Note:
while the dryer is disassembled, examine felts rollers and glides for wear, most common cause of belt breakage, if there is any wear, replace.
examine fan, fan housing and ducting for lint that got past the filter screen.

Door handle

I bought a handle and took a chance that I would figure it out. It turns out to be pretty simple. Open the dryer door and you will see 10 phillips head screws on the back of the door. There are also torx(star shaped) screws. Remove only the phillips head screws. This will separate the plastic outer ring from the door. On the back of the plastic ring are 2 screws that hold the handle. Remove the screws, replace the handle and put the ring back on the door. Put the 10 screws back and your done.
