Question about Ovens

Open Question

Westinghouse dsp963s I have a new electric oven. It came with the new house that I bought. Something is not right with this oven, the front panel indicator light stays on for a long time (a few hours) after the oven has been turned off. Sometimes the light flickers. I had logged the problem with the builder. The builder had contacted the retailer who had contacted a 3rd party service company to check the problem. The problem was diagnosed as a feedback on neutral in the oven circuitry. The technician could not figure out the cause of the problem. He changed an element hoping this would fix the problem. It didn't. On my request, another technician was sent to look at the problem. He didn't know what was wrong and checked with his supervisor. His supervisor had apparently known of a similar problem at a new home a few years ago. He asked his technician if the problem was at a new house. They did not give me an answer when I asked them how the problem was related to a new house. When I pushed them to fix the problem, they installed a resistor in the oven. I am sure is not a proper fix but just a work around. I rang an oven repair person and he reckons the problem could be related to a faulty thermostat. I spoke to another person (electric engineer) who reckons that the problem could be related to a incorrect wiring in the house. Has anyone had a similar problem or have the experience to advise what I should do next. 1. Is this a problem with the oven circuitry? or 2. Is this a problem with the house wiring? 3. Is there a quick test I can do to check if there is a faulty wiring in the house?

difficult to see what you have done here! can you come back with some info: do you have an earth trip fitted in your consumer unit? how many wires are fitted to the element? did you touch any other wiring except those connected to the element?

SOURCE: GE built-in 27" convention oven (JKP18)

I have the same oven and the problem is probably the control panel not the circuit breaker. I'm having the panel replaced next week for the 3rd time in 8 years but, you can find it on the web at repairclinic.com for about $140. they also provide troubleshooting help and installation help. I've spoken with GE many times trying to convince them that my oven may have an assembly related problem but they don't want to hear about it. Just replace the part and avoid all the aggravation I've endured trying to get GE to take care of it.
Good luck

I had the very same problem. I slid the oven out of the wall about 6" or so, unplugged it, plugged it back in. It worked. I'm not sure if I jostled some connection, or if unplugging/repluging it in reset some sort of circuit fault.

Most likely it's the clock/timer board that has to be replaced.

Where is the reset button

All the breakers on an electric OV300 would be accessible from the small access panel on the front lower right side of the oven, there should be a sticker on the door that says something along the lines of "circuit breaker here." If those breakers are all in the up position than it is most likely the breakers in your circuit panel.

Hi, We have a Westinghouse electric wall oven with a door which appears to have a broken spring inside. We have previously been able to set it back in gap for hinge but now it has given up holding...

You should be able to buy new springs or the hinge complete from most appliance parts outlets. On some Westinghouse, the door will slide straight off the hinges but on others, you have to strip the door to get at them. Try opening the door and see if the door slides up and away from the oven. If it does, its pretty easy to change the hinge, if not, there will be a little clip on each hinge which locks the arm in place. Slide the clip on both hinges to the front and then you can lift the door up and out of the oven. remove the screws holding the door together and then you will see the 2 screws which hold the hinges in. Order a left (or right) hand side whatever one you need, but I would suggest that they are replaced as a pair, otherwise the door may not close evenly.

I have recently moved into a new house and can't get the oven to work. I was hoping to get a manual for the wall oven and see if this information will solve my problem. It is a 1993 model EVBS3193...

So you have moved to a new house. I am assumeing that the Oven worked fine at the old house. I am also assumeing that you have plugged the Oven into your new house and that is when you noticed that it was not working.

If this is the case then the problem may be that the Breaker in the Electrical Sevice Panel of the new house is off. You need to reset the breaker and the Oven should then work.

I need the bottom heating element in an old westinghouse wall oven. the model # is OG25HXO

I am not certain what geographic region you are in but... Bake elements are often generic between brands. The key is to match up voltage, wattage, size, bends and terminals. Here are 2 pages of westing house elements:

http://www.partselect.com/PartSearchWizard.aspx?Appliance=Range+%2f+Stove+%2f+Oven&Brand=Westinghouse&PartType=Element+or+Burner&Electrical=Yes

I tried searching using OG25HXO with little success even on westinghouse sites US and AU.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How do you fit a new clock assembly board to a Stove 720EF?

I haven't done it, but I would imagine you would have to remove the entire oven from its housing to take the top off and then remove the front glass front control panel. ( The glass panel can be removed without taking the oven out).
The buttons on this panel are all push on/off. There are two screws located on the lower edge of the panel at either end of the panel. They point upwards. Once these screws are removed, the panel will be loose, but held in place with (3) lugs on the inside of the upper edge of the panel. Basically you have to jiggle the panel around, moving the lower edge out to overcome the lugs. Once the panel is off you will see the inner workings of the oven.

How do I remove the double oven?

I assume you want to remove it from the housing.
Ensure the power is off to the oven.
Remove 4 screws securing oven to front edge of housing.
With some assistance, slide the oven forward, and bodily lift it clear of the housing.
Make sure there is enough slack in the cable to lift it clear, if not. you will have support it on something whilst doing repair or whatever it is you intend to do.

Change light-bulb

You need to remove the whole oven from its cabinet (after switching off the electricity supply). Removing the doors first; (see http://www.youtube.com/user/Apart4u for videos of this) then remove the facia, which allows you access to the two restraining hooks near the top of the sides of the oven. With these slackened off (screws at the front) and pushed back, the oven can be slid out of its housing - be careful, it's heavy - onto a similar height workbench in front of the oven housing. Removing the wiring hatch (2 screws) and the rear panel (6 screws) gives access to the screw in bulb. Hope this helps :)
