In most cases the wires are small and you have to replace the whole cord that goes from the jack to the headphone. If you take the ear cup pad off, look for screws to remove the cover over the speaker. If there are no screws then it is a press on or a sealed ear cup. You will ruin it trying to get it apart. If you do get it apart, you should see where the cable comes in the earcup and fastens to the speaker and the to the other cable that goes to the other ear cup. You will need to use a soldering iron to change the cables. Pay attention to the colors of the wires and where they connect or you will have a phase issue.
Ear cushion reattachment If the ear cushions come off your headphones, reattach them as follows: 1. Fit the mounting flange inside the rim of the ear cup. 2. Make sure it attaches smoothly and uniformly within the entire ear cup. (Do not remove the ear cup lining material).
Ear cushions may need to be replaced due to normal wear and tear. To order replacement ear cushions, call 1-888-865-2700.

i would buy a new ear cup.and a new battery. and perhaps a new cord. i had a problem w/ my ear cups and i noticed that when i bought the new ear cups the sound was better. i also read that if the battery got alot of usage (4 plus year) then the whistling noise comes from that. i'm starting to have the same problem. i have had my headphones for a long time. i think like anything else that operates on batteries its time to change it.
Sound travels through different kinds of matter. Sound travels through gases, liquids and solids. 1. Hold a plastic bag of water against one of your ears. Cover your other ear with your hand. Have someone hold a ticking clock against the bag of water. Listen. 2. Keep the clock in the same place. Remove the bag of water. Listen. 3. Place a block of wood between your ear and the clock. Listen. Do you hear the clock best through the air, the water or the wood?
B. 1. Place the clock 20 cm away from your ear and listen to the ticking. 2. Have your partner hold the clock at the 20-cm mark on the meter stick. Place your ear at the end of the meter stick and listen. 3. Have your partner hold a metal rod to your ear and place the clock against the rod 20 cm away from your ear. Listen. Does sound move differently through some solids than it does through others?
C. 1. Take the plastic cups (telephone) and hold your cup to your ear while your friend talks slowly and clearly into the other cup. Keep the string tight. How does it work? What is vibrating? How do the vibrations of your friend's voice reach your ear? 2. Can a third person talk and listen if another cup with a string is attached? Take the separate cup with the string and attach it to the first line. Keep all strings tight while one friend talks into one cup and the other two friends listen. Can you hear the message of the third party? How many lines could you attach? Does each addition weaken the vibrations?
Write the mfr. I have same issue and made a replacement by slicing polyurethane foam to fit and gluing it with Barge cement. Pretty effective. Other options are cutting felt or fleece. I doubt replacements are easily found.
The design of these headphones includes a microphone on the outside and
on the inside of each earcup. The outside microphone detects outside
noise. The inside microphone monitors what you are hearing and when it
detects that the outside noise is present inside, the active
noise-canceling circuits remove that noise. This happens fast enough
that you perceive a siginficant reduction in the outside noise getting
to your ears.
The airspace inside the earcup is a tuned chamber defined by the foam in
the ear cushion. This is important because with the inside microphone
in close proximity, but at a 90-degree angle to the speaker, the circuit
must be designed to eliminate the normal feedback that occurs. When you
press the earcup close to your ear, you are changing the size and shape
of the air chamber inside of the earcup thus directing more of the
speaker sound toward the microphone than the design can compensate for
causing audio feedback to occur. You are hearing that feedback.
Removing your hand from the earcup should restore the shape of the air
chamber allowing the circuits to return to normal operation.
If the feedback occurs too easily when you are NOT pressing on the
earcup, then the foam may have weakened/deteriorated and it may be time
to replace the ear cushion.
