Drum not turning

If u have a burning smell, I'd check the belt and belt pulley. There is a switch at the pulley arm...if the belt hasn't pulled the pulley tight the switch won't make and motor won't run.

Motor quit running

I recently found one and it wouldn't turn so I took off the top burr and it would turn on so I would start with a thorough cleaning of the burrs then check the setting of the burrs, if they are too close the they wont allow the motor to run.
Next if the motor runs but the burrs don't turn it would be a sheared shear pin which is designed to shear in case a pebble got in the coffee before damage could occur
Third worn motor brushes. My motor was intermittent and found the brushes down to nothing. Now I am looking for new ones

The grinder is able to spin, but gets very hot and heats up the coffee it is grinding. It seems to be jammed, though turing the motor on will still cause it to spin. The adjustment ring is set on the...

Relax and be patient, problem is evident and it can be solved. you will need one key for releasing oil filters(borrow from your mechanic but it is good to be 3 legged one)

Detection of problems:

  1. You have old burrs and they chew coffee, they don't cut grind any more. Because of that coffee is overheating = burning(after that you have very bitter espresso)
  2. Upper holder of burrs is jammed and it needs to be released and removed for cleaning.

Repairing 2=

  • Remove hose and dozer cover, jam the blocking pin in open position (to not block the burr holder), take the oil filter key and input it in burr holder, start moving left and right slowly
  • When you see that you can move the burr holder than check again blocker pin and roll against fine grinding, to release the holder. do not go more than quarter of revolution, you can break the block pin with filter key leg.
  • Replace the key and continue releasing
  • When you once get it out you should clean very around grinders and all the place from coffee.
  • Remove the block pin and the spring below it
  • Screw the holder in place and be sure it goes inn easy
  • In case you don't have than measure the diameter to be sure what you are asking for.
  • Assemble back the grinder and test it with old ones once(might be you set it too fine and that is the reason for burning)

PS. do not hesitate to ask me for further instructions' such is burr changing.

I have a pro-ject 1.2 turntable . i can feel the motor is running but the it does not turn the belt . the pully that is attached to the motor will not turn the belt . the subplatter turns freely when i...

First I assume you have replaced the belt and it didn't work! If not do so!! Next with the motor running, belt on etc, see if you can turn the turntable with your hand. If you can't, then the motor is working fine and the mechanism is jammed up. If you can the motor is faulty or not getting enough power. A check with a volt meter will tell you that.

In which direction do you turn the barrel to make finer coffee?

Clockwise is the direction for making the grind finer, but make sure that the machine is running at the time you turn the hopper. If its not running, you trap beans under the burrs and jam the motor, which could do damage. There are numbers on the bottom of the hopper, but they are just a reference to go by.

Motor revs but grinder does not engage.

I am what you would call an expert when it comes to Baratza repairs.
The problem you are describing is not an unusual one. It sounds like the main drive gear has been stripped due to something foreign (likely a stone) sneaking into your grinder with the beans. It would have jammed the burrs, and because of the powerful torque from the motor, the drive gear has been stripped so it will no longer (or rarely) engage the burrs.

To solve this problem you will need to contact COAG Ltd (if you live in Canada) or Baratza if you are from the US. If you machine is still under warranty (less than a year old) this repair will be free of charge and you shouldn't be parted from your grinder for long.

I hope this helps anyone who stumbles upon this and finds themselves with the same problem.

My grinder is jamming

Possible that you installed something incorrectly but I don't think so. It sounds like you're not after the right problem. My guess would be that some bean shards got into the motor or some other place. Most of the motors used on these machines are geared down so that they make more torque and lower speed. Thus...the motor itself is actually quite weak. That's why it is jamming.

What I would start with: take the unit apart as much as you taking out the burr, the receiver cup and all that. Turn the unit over and tap it onto a newspaper covered table with some bit of force. Do it a couple of times. That may fix it. If not, you'll have to disassemble it and find the item jamming it up. Be sure the unit is unplugged when handling it. It is possible that some of the screws are non-tamper. You can get the right bits at the hardware store. Be sure to tighten all screws when you're done.
